  • Restore, Recharge, and Repair

"I remember the day that Jan charged me with the task of finding a perfect getaway. It had to be peaceful, away from TV and the like, convenient, affordable, comfortable, and dog friendly. Where was I ever going to find such a place? I searched for days and days on the Internet, and finally stumbled on Green Valley. We booked three nights the first time. When we were driving down the lane toward the cottages for the first time, Jan was ecstatic. It exceeded what she was looking for! Pepper, the black lab, loved the lake. Sara, the beagle mix, simply loved being there. Our new rescue, Tinker the yorkie, was a bit afraid at first, since he had been dumped in the woods. But he came to love this place as well. All the things you read about in the other reviews are absolutely true, and then some. All you need to bring is your food, your clothes, and your personal toiletries. The accommodations are wonderful, the beds are comfy, and the peace is unbelievable. We are up to a week at a time now, and thinking about more. One last point -- everyone we have met there, usually out walking their dogs as well, has been to Green Valley multiple times. Once you find this place, you never let it get away."

  • New favorite cabin!

"Mary's Ivy Cabin is superb! Even though we contacted her just a week before, Mary was happy to fit us in, and we are so glad she did. When you walk into a new rental house there's always the "oh no, what am I getting into..." moment, but as soon as we turned on the lights we were thrilled! The cabin is adorable, mostly one giant room with a large, comfortable sitting area, a well-appointed little kitchen, a dining table, and a perfect little pot-bellied wood stove in the middle to keep the place cozy. Mary supplied us with a huge bin of lovely smelling wood to burn, and we spent Friday and Saturday nights alternating between chatting in the 2 rocking chairs in front of the fire, and chatting in the giant, clean/new hot tub on the porch. The hot tub looks over the stream, and it's really perfectly situated. The cabin is at the end of a dead-end road with just one house nearby, on the other side of the house from the hot tub/deck, so it feels very private and peaceful. The stream is lovely and loud and beautiful, we walked along it quite a ways and even found a treehouse! We loved turning the hot tub jets off to listen to nature for a while -- then turning the jets and laptop back on to revel in human technology. :) The one bedroom is cute, with a comfy full-sized bed, and there is a big loft for kids or a second couple! The whole place is beautifully decorated with art from various cultures and lots of plants. The bathroom is fine, it did seem to get a bit of septic smell occasionally so we kept the door closed -- consider bringing a scented candle or two for the bathroom + bedroom since they are right next to each other. That is the only concern of any kind we had at Mary's beautiful Ivy Cottage. It was easy getting in, cleaning up, and a wonderful place to stay. Mary is very sweet and acommodating and was easy to communicate with. I already look forward to going back next time we need a quiet nature weekend - with a hot tub!"

  • Probably the best designed vacation home I've ever seen.

"It's hard for me to add meaningfully to the years of overwhelmingly positive reviews you can read here -- honestly, they're pretty much right about all of it. This property is a gem. What I'll say is that unlike a lot of vacation homes I've stayed in, everything about the lodge really *worked*. All of the bathrooms and the kitchen actually vented outside (so, taking showers or cooking a stew didn't steam everyone). The central air actually propagated very well throughout the property -- not the usual "2nd floor is an oven while the first feels like the north pole". Thoughtful chandelier-style lighting and ceiling fans were absolutely everywhere (including the centerpiece deck / porch); and, I never had to hunt for a power outlet when I needed one. The "summer camp" theme is strong throughout the property, and made the place feel so much more like I'd gotten away from my city home -- the pictures simply don't do the place justice. Windows are placed strategically throughout so that you're never spiritually far from the pleasantly woodsy setting, and the tall vaulted ceiling was both visually handsome, and a treat for the ears in the rain. The layout of the property was very conducive to making spaces for people to get together and talk or play, while leaving plenty of room for some quiet reading when a bit more solitude was wanted. We honestly never missed the lack of Cable TV -- which is an endorsement all by itself. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked and had room for two to comfortably work, and the dishwasher was a life-saver that did a better job than mine at home. About the only thing I really missed during our stay was a tub for soaking after a long day's hike, but it's hard to complain when there were 3 very nice showers and plentiful hot water. We're all very much looking forward to coming back next year!"

  • Wonderful cozy cottage tucked nicely in the woods, but close to the boat launches of Raystown Lake!

"This was the perfect place to stay! It was our first visit to the Raystown Lake area and the cottage was wonderful! Our four legged friends enjoyed it also! We had one neighborhood four legged friend visit us too! Cozy, relaxing and everything we needed! The easy check-in/check-out was great. The cottage included so much of the little things that we didn't have to pack which made traveling lighter. Thanks for opening your cottage to our family and allowing us to have a great vacation!"
