  • Perfect Spot for Rest and Relaxation - Highly Recommend!

"Let me begin by saying that the photos of The Sand Home do not do the house justice. Katherine really did think of everything in outfitting the home, from providing all linens (sheets, towels and beach towels), having a fully equipped kitchen, and recreational items (beach chairs, boogie boards, umbrellas, games, and bikes). Our group - 3 couples and 1 single (all adults) - felt the home provided ample private space for us to retreat when we wanted to go our separate ways, as well as ample communal space. We can definitely see how families with children would love it. The covered porch was a perfect setting for group meals (dining table seats 8) and just for relaxing on the rocking chairs and swing. Really great breeze in the mornings and evenings. All the bedrooms have A/C but we really didn't have to use it - the temperature dipped enough in the evening to just open the windows and let the breeze blow in. The home is only a 3 minute walk to Mackerel Cove - the premier swimming spot in Jamestown; 2 minute drive to the closest grocery store and 3 minute drive to the ferry to Newport. You really cannot find a place that is more perfectly situated. Katherine was great - provided very clear instructions for check-in and check-out and responded to emails we sent during our stay. The party before us checked out late, which delayed our check-in (Katherine was uber apologetic about the delay and wanted to take the extra time to make sure the house was ready for us - it was immaculate!). Katherine in turn allowed us to check-out an hour later at the tail end. Katherine also provided some great recommendations for local eats and activities. The one thing folks should note - the upstairs bathroom has a clawfoot tub which is better suited for baths and giving children a quick wash - all those in my group felt more comfortable using the shower downstairs (we have old knees and couldn't squat for too long). In sum, we had an awesome time, would definitely stay at The Sand Home again and would highly recommend the home to others looking for a wonderful place to get away from it all!"

  • Cozy Cottage Convenient to Newport

"Great find! This place was very enjoyable to stay for an autumn weekend. We were visiting our adult son in school and wanted a house where we could live family style. Tho small, the kitchen was well thought out and appealing, as was the master bedroom featuring a king size bed. We also enjoyed the outdoor patio with gas fire pit under twinkle lights and the second bedroom that our son used. It is a quaint cottage across the street from Easton's Beach that feels very homey and gets lots of attention from it's owners. My husband is more prone to choose Hotels but he said he would stay here again happily."

  • Ideal Location for our multi generational "Girls" Weekend

"A group of friends/extended family traveling to the area for the Newport Mansions Wine & Food Festival, found this to be an ideal location. Easy walking distance to the Jamestown-Newport Ferry. Easy walking distance to our favorite local restaurants: Jamestown FiSH and Slice of Heaven. Pictures almost capture the charm of this Victorian Mansion, but cannot really convey the joy of sitting with a cup of tea or glass of wine on the lovely porch overlooking the harbour and Pell Bridge. Sunrise & Sunset were both spectacular. Jazz music played briefly from next door added to the ambience and the neighbors were also very friendly. Although our numbers did not justify such a large house it will be very hard to not book this lovely home again next year or on other visits to Jamestown. I hope to return soon to the Middle Sister with more time to relax and enjoy the property. As well as return to spend more time on the Patio at Jamestown FiSH enjoying something bubbly by the Fire-pit or in the Dining room enjoying the fabulously prepared local seafood and produce. Thank you Libby! Thank you FiSH! Thank you Newport Mansions Preservation Society!"

  • Rental in summer 2016 - fantastic vacation!

"This was our best family vacation so far! As soon as we stepped on the property we felt completely relaxed. The property is beautiful and private. There are so many different spots to enjoy a different view of the lake or gardens. There is a spacious side yard where we played croquet and paddle ball. Directly across the street is a small playground and field for more extended activities, although frankly we didn't need it with the size of the rental property and it was hard to tear ourselves away. It was great that the owners have the boat shed stocked with every thing you could need to enjoy the lake and the kayaks, canoes etc..., including, floats, life preservers, snorkel gear, etc. we know now that we don't have to pack that for next year. The cabin is spacious, beautiful, immaculate and stocked with everything you need to cook as you would at home. We chose this cabin for its proximity to Narragansett beaches and Newport, so that we had options to keep our family from getting bored or to enjoy a meal out, but we ended up never leaving because we could not tear ourselves away, th owners are lovely and take pride in renting the property. They were very helpful as we planned the trip. We are looking forward to next year!"
