  • Excellent Place for a Large Group Gathering

"We had a family reunion with 14 people staying at the house. It is quite large and well laid out, so that everyone had their privacy, and yet we all felt that we were there together. Hard to find such a place, and much nicer than renting a bunch of separate condos. The large kitchen was a great central hang out place, as was the pool. There was no dining area that could accommodate more than 8 people, but we remedied this by moving two tables together. The setting was beautiful and we loved being able to have a short walk or bike ride to the beach. I would really recommend this house for a large gathering of family or friends. I gave it four stars instead of five because there are some older home maintenance items that need some attention. But Joe was easy to communicate with, and very responsive when we needed something. I would stay there again."

  • Private Sanctuary

"Perfect family reunion! Our group of 12 could not have been more happy with this accommodating home. The location in Vanderhorst Plantation allows for a serene feeling in general, and then when you layer in the privacy that this home offers, the vacation becomes even more relaxing! The outdoor space around the pool was perfect for our whole group to gather and connect. In addition, the short walk or bike ride to the beach was beautiful ~ a daily ritual! We rented bikes and used them every day. The house design (including a three bedroom guest house separate from the two bedroom main house) allowed for the teen agers or late-sleepers to be slightly separated from the two master bedrooms in the main house. That feature was wonderful to allow the early risers and coffee drinkers to enjoy the morning while the others slept! The kitchen is well stocked ~ even for professional chefs! We were on the island to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary, so we hired a caterer, Pampered Palate, to prepare a meal one evening. I can't recommend them highly enough. The food was simply amazing, Chef Merrit and his staff was incredibly attentive, responsive, and friendly. The island was a perfect get-away for multiple generations and Erin's house makes a good vacation destination a great place to make family memories. We would highly recommend this home."

  • A Lovely Spacious Home!

"The photos do not depict how stately this home is...from its lovely grand foyer to the comfortable en suite bathrooms to the 10-foot ceilings and wide hallways! We loved having a truly comfortable and open floor plan for visiting and cooking together. The kitchen is very well stocked (all kinds of skillets, serving bowls, wine glasses, a blender, dish soap, etc.) and easy to work in while still being part of the group. Having bikes available in the basement was a true bonus! Tire pumps and tools handy if necessary. One of the most fun times was riding to the ocean at twilight on the bikes. A couple times deer were spotted up close. Our king-size bed/mattress was very comfortable, and our guests echoed this sentiment. The upstairs bedrooms are well-appointed (though we didn't find any extra sheets) and quiet enough for babies to take their day naps. There is a lovely painted wooden rocker which is perfect for taking a special photo of the little ones on the front landing. Brenda was extremely communicative and available any time I needed her by phone or by email. That is very important, because I couldn't find my papers upon entering the first gate to Kiawah! Brenda was only a phone call away. There were a few negatives (some unrelated to the home, I realize) and they include the following. The extreme heat and humidity prevented us from enjoying the screened-in porch or deck. The sauna-like conditions in August and "jungle-like" nature of the island kept away any breeze. But the air conditioners on both levels did their jobs, and we were quite comfortable inside. Further, the ocean is very dense with sand so the water is very murky. I recommend taking the available ocean floats located in the unfinished basement which were still sandy from the last guests. The lawn of this home is not suited for children to play outside as the foliage is densex and (BIG) spiders build huge webs all around. It is beautiful, but plan on the beach for outside play. Lastly, the rinse-off shower is located underneath the screened-in porch in a shed-like structure that is dark and closed in, a small issue because there are plenty of showers inside. We had such a good time in this beautiful home and want to thank the owners for listing it and for allowing us to experience the South Carolina's Kiawah Island!"
