  • Location, location, location!

"We had a wonderful stay at the Perry's cottage. It worked great for our family of 5. It was a 5 minute walk to the pool and a 10 minute walk to the beach. The Perry's provide plenty of towels (for bathing purposes as well as for the beach), 4 adult bikes that work great for the many bike paths on the island as well as the beach, and a pull cart to load up your gear for the beach. We were there the last weekend in Juky 2016 and it was a HOT week, but on day 1 we went to the beach and paid $250 to a guy stationed at the beach and he set up two umbrellas and four beach chairs for us in the same spot every day for the week (you can also do this for ac daily rate). You can bring your own umbrella/chairs, but the wind is strong and we found that the umbrellas we brought were not sturdy enough and it was nice to not drag all the stuff down each day). The house is clean and great for a beach stay - if you are looking for nice, clean, comfortable and convenient - this is the place! The house backs up to a pond and there is a screen porch with a table on it that overlooks the pond. This is the BEST part of the house. A really cool view for serenity and wildlife (we saw gators, birds, a racer snake (non-Venezia!) and a bobcat on the path by the pond). Although it was upper 90s all week, the ceiling fan made the screen porch quite pleasant. Our family brought games (and the Perry's have additional games), and we spent mornings, mod-day breaks and evenings on the porch playing games, drinking coffee and reading books. Each room had a television, which was nice when we needed a break from each other and the heat! If you are looking for luxury, look at houses in the Vanderhorst Plantation area. If you are looking for a fantastic clean, comfortable and conveniently located beach house, look no further!"

  • Wonderful cottage - will be back!

"My first trip to Kiawah and I am in love. The island is amazing and so private. We researched many properties and the main reason we chose Debbie's property was her quick, personal response to our questions about the cottage and the fantastic reviews. The cottage has everything you could possible need and clean! The dishes, flatware, cookware, appliances are all top notch. She had a wonderful selection of spices also. The linens were fabulous - high quality, not what you normally see in rentals. The fact that she had 6 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, toys, boogie boards and the wonderful beach cart had us sold. No need to pack up all of that in your car - this cottage has it all. The mattresses were so comfy. We were worried about our 3 year old sleeping in the twin bedroom alone - but the bed was so comfortable she slept thru every night. She loved the fish art on the wall. And the "steering wheel" . We enjoyed renting bikes and riding the bike trails and to the beach. Honestly the beach is less than a 10 minute walk. And 3 minutes or less by bike. We had an issue with the ice maker not working - and Debbie and her husband brought us more than enough bags of ice to get us through the week. They were prompt with the issue and helped to resolve for us so that we were not inconvenienced. We ran out of gas on the grill and again - they were immediate to resolve the issue. We loved the porch - both the screened and outdoor. My husband and daughter loved the outdoor shower. Debbie had special soap in each bath - again a wonderful touch. Cleaning supplies galore should you need them. I always bring anti-bacterial wipes when renting, but she had them there and then some. The TV system - although tough to figure out at first (too many remotes) - was great. Once we figured it out - we were good to go. We liked the location of this cottage - because it was on the end. We noticed that most of the cottages, the decks were smack against each other. But this was a perfect location, more private. One minute walk to the lagoon to see "Wally" the gator. I enjoyed the wildlife and atmosphere so much here. Walking down to the inlet to find sand dollars at low tide - a must. West Beach is an ideal location. Close to Harris Teeter by car or about a 2 mile bike ride. The Kiawah Shop at The Straw market , right next to the cottages was great! We had breakfast at The Southern Kitchen - quite good. We will be calling on Debbie again in the future."

  • Very clean and roomy for all.

"Was the listing description accurate regarding the location, layout, amenities, etc ? - YES Was the property clean and well-maintained ? - YES Did the owner provide good customer service ? YES Would you recommend this property to your friends or relatives ? YES What activities, attractions and restaurants did you like or dislike near by ? We had not been to Kiawah since 1997. The attractions were up to par as we had remembered them. The Straw Market restaurant had a nice breakfast menu. The Straw Market in general though is showing its age. It could use some new wood on the stairs and a general face lift. There is a large Gator (5 to 7') in the pond near the cottage. Considering there are a lot of small children on the island, perhaps consideration should be made concerning its future in that pond. Overall the experience was a great one and we would do it again. We all had a great time. Tom Jozwik PS The She-Crab soup at the Amen restaurant in Charleston is to die for. Don't forget the Sherry."

  • Comfortable Home in Paradise

"Our family just ended 10 days in paradise. Kiawah Island is more beautiful than I imagined. The pool and beach are truly just a 5-10 minute walk away. (I counted about 600 steps from the house to the water's edge.) There are numerous cycling and walking paths in the neighborhood, and around the rest of the island. But the best treat for us was riding for miles up and down the beach, with the wind in our faces, and waves crashing next to us. The comfortable and accommodating Sparrow Pond home coupled with Susie Oringel's exceptional property management made our family vacation absolutely perfect. The home is true to the pictures on VRBO. It has a very efficient use of space, along with large windows, skylights, and a tray ceiling in the family room to make the home feel larger. We were surprised that our family of 6 adults fit so well. Several of us cooked together, and the spacious kitchen accommodated us all without bumping into each other. We used the sunroom table for puzzles, reading, card games, and morning coffee; and ate at the counter and dining area table. There's plenty of comfortable seating area to watch tv. The home is well-equipped with large, functional appliances, and adequate cooking equipment. The only thing we found missing is a cutting board, so we bought an inexpensive set at the Tanger Outlet. (Our way of "paying it forward" for the future guests.). The super-sized washer and dryer are in a separate laundry, convenient and relatively quiet. The shared bathroom is the only room overdue for renovation. Age and humidity have taken its toll, but my adult-aged children didn't seem to mind. They did a great job renovating the master bath. So the other bath may be on the "to-do" list. Susie graciously provides information with grocery options. With the exception of seafood, my family was completely satisfied by what Harris Teeter had to offer. As a suggestion, get the HT Smartphone app, and VIC (loyalty) card, and the groceries will be quite reasonable. They had some exceptional surprises, too, like grilled chicken breasts, and inexpensive bagels/muffins/pastries produced by a local bakery. We will definitely return to Sparrow Pond. We've vacationed in Rehoboth Beach, Hilton Head, Aruba, and Myrtle Beach, to name a few beaches. But Kiawah beats them all."
