Recent Lakes & Blackwater Rivers reviews

  • Very nice condo

"We recently stayed in this condo and it truly had all the comforts of home. It was clean, comfortable, and very nicely decorated. Billie was so pleasant to work with, and took extra time to show us around and gave us a little history lesson about the area. We were traveling with teens who love to fish, and they especially enjoyed the dock and swimming pool. We rented a boat one day and enjoyed the lake, and also took a walk on the bridge. While there were not a lot of restaurants nearby, we did enjoy the Captain's Quarters. It was a very pleasant, relaxing vacation."

  • Fantastic House with Extras

"This house was the perfect place for our family fishing trip. The house was very clean, well stocked with everything you would need and then some. The satellite TV was a huge plus and the Wi-Fi got a lot of use sending fish pictures to the folks back home! The huge kitchen table was simply awesome. I can't remember when the last time all 10 of our family members sat down and actually ate together!! The bedrooms were all roomy and created plenty of sleeping options. Bathrooms were all spotless with plenty of towels. As stated in prior reviews, the sun room was extremely hot during the day, but we were outside most of the time so this was not that big of a deal for us. The kids and grandkids loved the beach area and spent hours there. The boat ramp was really convenient and there was ample parking for our cars and two trucks with boat trailers attached. The dock was just as described with fishing area, chairs and plenty of room for the boats. The kids caught fish off the dock every day and the fish cleaning station came in real handy during our stay to clean all of our catfish, the largest one 28lbs. Just a note, that there is no shade out there on the dock so plan to clean fish early in the am, in the evening, or bring an easy up awning to provide some relief from the sun if you go in August as we did. The extra fridge and upright freezer out on the sun porch were huge bonuses to keep our beverages, ice and fish in. To top it all off, the owners, David and Brenda were awesome to deal with. Great communication from booking through the end of our stay. Cant wait to go back next year!!"

  • Excellent Holiday (week between Christmas and NY) Stay!

"My family of four (2 adults and 2 older teens) really enjoyed our winter vacation at Turtleback Lodge! Communications and arrangements with Beverlee were fast, smooth and detailed - we felt very comfortable with the directions and check-in/out procedures. We are "lake people" and have spent many summer vacations on lakes in northern Maine, the Poconos, Ontario and western Maryland. This cabin is fantastic - really great lake - fishing - nautical themes. Our 15 year old son slept on the "swinging bed" in the enclosed porch and loved it. We all got a kick of the fishing decorations especially the bobbers used on the pull string to turn lights on and off! The kitchen was well stocked. We cooked one meal in the smoke house as well (worked well for us since it was raining). The view from the property is unbelievable. Big cove view to the left where the dock/pier is located, full big water lake views to the front and right - being out on the peninsula gives great perspective. The lake is centrally located to easy access to highways to make day trips (we went to Greenville and Charleston). Greenwood is only about 20 minutes away to get supplies/groceries or to go to the movies, restaurants, etc. Unfortunately for us we dealt with a LOT of rain during our week but we made the best of it - sitting in the hot tub looking out on the lake while it was raining was very relaxing. Due to the rain the lake got a little muddy and despite of our best efforts the fish were not biting. All the reason to come back in the future!"

  • Labor Day Relaxation

"Great labor day (even with tropical storm) weekend. Loved the new dock facilities (covered) supported 25' boat, sunshine, well equipped home in a quiet cove. Boat ramp literally around the corner! Grounds kept nicely, plenty of fenced in area for boat trailer. Nice neighbors. Very quiet area. Bar & Grill close by on the Friday rain day. College Football on TV (cable) Will recommend and be back soon."
