  • Beautiful, Quiet Island. Parking Costs Extra

"My friend and I decided last minute to go on a Labor Day beach getaway. We had never heard of Harbor Island, but decided to give it a shot. It's about a 30 minute drive from Beaufort, SC. Our stay was fabulous. The people at Natural Retreats were wonderful to work with. The condo was clean and stocked with just enough of everything we would need for the weekend: toilet paper, paper towels, travel size shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/lotion, soap, travel size laundry detergent and dish soap. There were clean towels and wash cloths, too. The island was beautiful and quiet. To my knowledge there is no public beach access so only residents/guests of the island have access to the beach. You have to go through a security gate upon entering the island (open 24 hours) just to gain entrance to the condo. A parking pass does cost extra for stays less than 7 days. You will have to pay for this after booking your rental. Wi-Fi is free, but connectivity is fair. I wouldn't plan an important online meeting/test while staying at the condo. We thought the ocean was a bit odd because at low tide (in the middle of the afternoon) the ocean recedes a good distance and the water becomes very shallow. There are definitely pros/cons to this. Just be aware that if you are the type that likes to get into the water, you should plan your beach time for earlier in the morning or in the evening. Mid-day the water will not even reach your knees depending on your height! Also, May to October is nesting season for turtles. If you plan to walk on the beach at night during that time, only flashlights that use red light are allowed (no white/yellow light). I would definitely stay here again. It was beautiful and quiet. I would recommend it as great place to go and relax or for a romantic getaway. If you want more of a party atmosphere or a place with a lot of restaurants/bars on the island, I'd look elsewhere."

  • Great apartment, great location!

"We found everything as promised, and had a great time! Check-in / check-out was smooth, kitchen well-equipped and had everything we needed. Stayed there with a family of six - spacious enough, Ideal location to relax on the beach, explore nature - we went on a guided tour with beaufort kayak - and for a daytrip to Savannah."

  • Paradise!

"This condo is our favorite! Every time we visit Harbor Island, we rent this condo. It is just the right size for our family of four. The master shower has two shower heads and a seat bench. The kitchen is equipped with all necessary items to create a beautiful meal. The deck overlooks the ocean. It is perfect for drinking your morning coffee, and allows plenty of room for yoga in the morning. We are looking forward to staying in this beautiful condo for our next South Carolina visit!"

  • Very nice...

"The beach wasn't what we are used to (Florida white sand and blue water spoiled us!) but the house was very nice. We especially enjoyed the three decks and the screened-in porch. Dolphins provided entertainment with our morning coffee as they followed shrimp boats headed out to sea. Most of all, we were impressed by the friendliness and kindness of the property manager, Karl Mack. We had a "mini-emergency" when the family dog vanished. Mr. Mack spent hours on his golf cart helping us look for him and engaged Security to join the search. Even some residents were helping! Fortunately, all ended well and the puppy is safe and sound, happily reunited with his family. If he could write a review, he would certainly mention the "ghost crabs" and his efforts to become BFFs with them, none of which were successful. :)"
