  • My Second Favorite Place in the World

"My favorite place is my hollow in West Virginia. This particular home in Harbor Island is a close second! I have been here twice now and its beauty and serenity warms my soul. This last time I shared it with my lifelong friends of 40 years and my daughter and her children. Seriously, there is nothing better than sitting on the upper veranda watching the gorgeous sunsets every evening! I took enough photos to wallpaper a room! The accommodations, colors, decorative items and art give it such a wonderful local flavor it's hard to lock the door and leave. You would not want for anything! Whether heading to Hunting Beach, a hop skip and a jump down the road or visiting the Sound and its beach by golf cart, one can't go wrong. The information Mia provided us gave options for restaurants, shopping, local sight seeing and books of the history and geography of the environs. I'm fascinated by the Gullah people that made this area their home. There are plenty of spaces for walking and bicycling and for children to run free. This year we took an hour drive to visit Savannah. I would be remiss if I didn't thank our hosts Mia and Bob for such an amazing vacation! You made everything easy. If anyone is thinking of traveling to this beautiful part of the country I can't possibly recommend this home any more highly! Get away from the commerciality and crowded beaches of Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. Come to Harbor Island and Beaufort where history and nature are center stage! Let Mia know and she'll make the wheels turn for a vacation home that is one of a kind!"

  • Relaxing escape!

"We enjoyed every moment at the big yellow house. We had 4 generations of family stay under one roof and had a blast. The house had plenty of room to connect as a family,or to escape to a peaceful porch area to read and relax. The large dining room table was great for eating together or playing multiple games at once. The view of the beach and water where great- we enjoyed sunrise and sunsets from the deck or from the beach, just a few steps away. The kitchen was great, with plenty of room and the new appliances were very nice. A big fridge, and five burner stove were great! The house is located very close to the beach. You have to stay up on the hi tide/low tide chart, because high tide covers the entire beach! When high tide hit,we went to the pool. The pool was a very comfortable and well laid out. I would recommend driving to the pool We rented bikes, kayaked, went for long walks on the beach, found neat things like, horsehoe crabs, puffer fish ,hermit crabs, and we're able to witness the release of 17 leatherback turtle hatchlings on the beach-don't miss this! Beaufort is close and a neat little town to visit with a beautiful waterfront park and great places to eat Visit Barefoot Bubbas for t-shirts and free ice cream ( no catch!) We also found the staff and people in the area to be very friendly and relaxed We would highly recommend Harbor Island and the big yellow house!"

  • A peaceful retreat

"My wife and I went on a long weekend to celebrate our anniversary and this place was absolutely perfect. The condo was very comfortable, clean, and had a terrific view of the beach. The outside deck was especially nice with seating for four and an umbrella to keep the glare of the sun off of you should you need it. Nearby, (about a mile) there were restaurants with excellent seafood and beverages. The beach was spacious, sandy, and not crowded which made for a very relaxing environment. It's an excellent location to travel to for a relaxing get-a-way."

  • Great family beach house!

"We enjoyed our family get-together in early June, great views, good accommodations and an abundance of wildlife. Unfortunately our vacation was cut short by illness but we all had a great time while there, crabbing, watching the tidal waters ebb and flow, and beaching it! Hope to repeat our stay , minus the illness of course."
