"We parked upon arriving and before unloading anything....ran to the 'back' of the house, the beach. It is the most amazing view you'll ever experience! And...high tide or low tide? You DO have beach! We lived on the huge screened in back porch, all week. The house is clean, well equipped and up to date. We spent little time inside though. It is secluded...that's exactly what we wanted. You are in a state park but far from the coming and going of anyone visiting the park. We essentially had our private beach area. Several sea turtles came on shore to leave eggs/nests the week we were there! We explored the island daily. We visited "Lil' Blue" (the cabin still standing out in the water). We explored the "Bone Yard" of amazing trees the ocean claimed and left on the beach. We saw the remains of the cabins there long long ago. We bought groceries in Beaufort, on our way to the cabin, and didn't go back out except to visit long established and family owned Gay Fish Company (15 mins away). We'd watch the shrimp boats all day (from the back porch) then we would go buy fresh seafood for dinner that evening. If you are looking for swimming pools, water slides, amenity cards, and fast food places.....this is NOT your place to go. If you are looking for natural beauty, tranquility, gorgeous sunsets and "moon rises", shrimp boats, history, and wonderful natural surroundings.....this IS your place to go! We hope to go back.....again and again."
