  • Quiet, Secluded, Clean, and Comfortable

"We stayed for ten days in this rental. The home was clean, functional, and very secluded. We wanted to be away from the rest of the world and this was perfect. The owners are very nice, and very respectful. Our group was very happy with the layout. We had deer pass through daily, coyotes on occasion, rabbits and even a skunk on one occasion. We saw big horn sheep and buffalo in around Custer.Very peaceful, and a perfect getaway for our group of seven. I would stay here again."

  • Best ever!!!

"Stayed a week with our family. I was very impressed by the cleanliness and even more impressed that towels, cookware, firewood and even toilet paper were provided. Connie greeted our family upon arrival. Nice and secluded but within reach of everything you'd want to do and see! Thanks again Connie for your hospitality!!"

  • Awesome View!

"The Ponderosa was amazing! The pictures do not do it justice. We had a group of 13 ages ranging from 4 months to 82 years young. It was a wonderful place to come back to in the evenings after a full day of adventure in the Black Hills. Everyone especially enjoyed the hot tub and view from the back deck. The house had every accommodation we needed. I would recommend this place from anyone wanting to get away from it all! There is limited cell phone coverage and no WiFi, but when you have beautiful outdoor views who needs it! We were also impressed that we never ran out of hot water when everyone took showers in the morning! The people at Heart of the Hills Vacation homes are easy to get a hold of and work with. We will be back!"

  • Location! Location! Location!

"Perfect fit for our family of 9 (6 adults, 3 children). Loved the 5 bedrooms & 5 bathrooms! House was clean and passed my inspection:) Parts are a little worn around the edges & decorating is from the 90's, but it was a comfortable home for us to sprawl throughout. Worse part was the lack of Internet. It was so spotty & unreliable. There is no hairdryer which is unusual for VRBO's. The appliances all worked great! No central air, but 2 floor units (one on the main level & one in an upstairs bedroom). The lower level one worked OK cooling that area, but the unit in the bedroom only cooled the one room. We had a few 90+ degree days, so the other 2 upstairs bedrooms were warm. Thankful for ceiling fans & that it eventually cools down at night. The Mickelson Trail is adjacent (across the creek) to the property. The gravel lane is rough for road bikes, but the trail is equally rough. We sure wish the wonderful trail would be maintained better or even better yet paved! We had an awesome family vacation in the Black Hills and would stay here again."
