  • Well Appointed Cozy Cabin

"Just a few miles south of Lead, SD in the heart of the northern Black Hills, you'll find this wonderfully appointed, cozy cabin. The cabin is built in the classic style with logs and natural wood but it is anything but rustic. It features all the amenities of home but with a forest retreat flare. One of the best (and somewhat hard to find) features is the wood burning fireplace. There's nothing like the heat and ambiance from the soft light, smell, and sound of wood crackling on chilly fall nights and mornings. The cabin features two full bathrooms each with a shower and the main level BR also has a large jet tub. One Queen BR on the main offers privacy while 3 additional queen beds in the loft for additional sleepers. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook meals, make coffee and mix drinks. There is an ice maker (full of ice) in the fridge freezer which was handy. Motion sensing lights upon entering the cabin are a nice touch to keep one from scrambling around in the dark. Most recessed lights have dimmers which also adds a nice touch. There is a large flat screen TV (mostly not used) in the main cabin area also if kids (or adults) want to plug back in for a bit. A large wrap around deck allows for sitting outside to read, chat, or simply take in the sights of the beautiful surrounding forest. Quite a few steps to gain a entrance to the cabin may make it a poor choice for handicapped or disabled people. For explorers, a Mickelson trail entry point is just a mile down the road, and of course, the most beautiful scenery in the entire hills (Spearfish Canyon) is just a 25 minute drive away. Overall, this is a great spot centrally located for northern Black Hills activities. It is an hour from the larger tourist spots like Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and Needles Highway if you're looking to visit those spots. Overall my wife and I would highly recommend Eagles Lair and we certainly would return."

  • Perfect family gathering with lots of outdoor space for the kids to run.

"The lodge and guesthouse had plenty of sleeping space for our family. We had 14 adults, and 5 children ages 2 to 8. With two separate living areas, the kids could watch movies and play games in one, while adults could visit in the other area. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. We had above average temperatures, so the adults and kids all enjoyed time outdoors. We took advantage of the horseshoe pits, sand volleyball court, and badminton. We cooked a few dutch oven meals in the firepit and enjoyed an evening campfire. The kids especially enjoyed exploring around the creek and trying a little fishing with equipment supplied. Family came from South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado. The farthest anyone had to drive was 6 hours, so it was a perfect central location. We'd love to stay here again."
