  • We loved it!

"Everything about our stay at the cottage was ideal. The house was clean (immaculate, actually) and as-advertised. Doug and Denise went out of their way to make sure we felt comfortable and welcome. We can't wait to go back. (P.S. My wife wants me to leave a poor review to increase the likelihood that the Cottage will be available the next time we head to the Black Hills. Obviously, she loved the place, too.)"

  • Just what we were looking for.

"We had a great vacation staying at this house. The location was close to all the major sites we wanted to see. I was impressed with how stocked the kitchen and bathrooms were. The kitchen provided all the things we needed to have a few meals in the cabin instead of going out to eat all the time. We really enjoyed the wildlife we could view from the deck in the morning and evening. We are 2 couples who are empty nesters looking for a fun week away and this helped make it a great adventure. We will definitely come back to stay at the Tin Mill Cottage."

  • Location, Location, Location!!!!

"We were so fortunate to have selected the Shady Grove Cottage for our first visit to the Black Hills. The location was ideal for our many day trips. Shady Grove is a beautiful property and located in the most peaceful area. Deer in the front and back yards each day and so many birds. The owners, Carol and Lin, were fantastic and provided us with lots of very good information on additional places to visit. The cottage is fully stocked so if you wanted to pick up some groceries and cook your meals there, you could. Full-size washer/dryer in the unit which is great so you don't have to pack as many clothes if you are flying. There is both a front and back deck for you to enjoy the mornings/evenings. Also, very clean and nicely decorated. We had a busy schedule planned for our trip and we accomplished everything on our list. We visited Mount Rushmore (twice), Crazy Horse, Mammoth Site, Custer State Park, Lake Pactola, Wind Cave, Needles Highway (twice), Iron Mountain Road Scenic Highway (pigtails & tunnels), Sylvan Lake, Hot Springs, The Badlands (really good), Wall Drugstore, Spearfish Canyon, Deadwood, Lead, Sturgis and even a trip just over the border into Wyoming to see Devil's Tower (well worth the drive), Savoy Falls, Bear Butte State Park, Vanocker Canyon Scenic Highway, Hill City (rode the 1880 train), Keystone, wine tasting at Prairie Berry and Naked Winery. My husband even got his golf fix at the 18-hole course in Hot Springs (Southern Hills) - rental clubs and all - as this was supposed to be a nature type trip without golf! We generally had our breakfast at the cottage before we left and packed supplies for a picnic lunch or just a snack. There was a small cooler available for us to use which was great! We had lunch one day at the Bay Leaf Café in Spearfish and it was good. Just check with Carol and she will give you suggestions for places to eat. Again, we really appreciated the hospitality provided by Carol and Lin and the use of their beautiful home. On a scale of 1-10, our vacation was definitely a 10! I cannot stop telling everyone back in our small town in Florida how great the place was and that we highly recommend it."

  • Very nice alternative to campground

"We stayed at the condo with our two daughters and their friends. We throughly enjoyed our stay. The setting was very convenient to the lake. There was more than enough room to park all of the cars we had as people had to come and leave at various times plus having a truck with the boat. The hosts even let us use the fire pit so we could do the "campfire" and make smores. The condo was roomy as well so no one felt cramped for space."
