  • Tranquil and Quaint Cottage

"The history of Wood Duck Inn is almost palpable when you walk in the 50-yr old house--from the vintage furnishings and family photographs to the stacked stone fireplace and knotty pine paneling. Like Wood Duck Inn, we have nearly 50 years of Norris Lake memories ourselves. On this trip, we fished, "bobbed" for hours with friends and family in the beautiful water near the cliff, had cookouts, and read books on the porch swing. Mill Creek cove is perfect for kayaking in the early morning or evening, when jet skiers have worn themselves out and gone home. On our last evening, we watched the Perseid Meteor Shower from our friend's dock. Beds are comfy, plenty of space for privacy, well-equipped kitchen (although the nostalgic Hamilton Beach mixer refused to cooperate!). Great communication with the owners. The home was nearly perfect for us. The ONLY reason we didn't give it 5 stars was beyond Martie and Scrog's control--thanks to TVA, the decreasing water levels on Norris Lake throughout the summer created shallow, rocky waters near the dock. Just something to consider if you have a large boat and want it within footsteps of your vacation home. You know it's a winner when you want to return and do it all over again! Thanks for sharing your treasure Martie and Scrog! Lisa and Tony"

  • If you enjoy being right on the lake AND having a wonderful place to stay, look no further!!

"This was our first trip to Norris Lake. It was important for me to find that perfect blend of having a great home for our family to stay in AND and have the perfect lakefront location with outdoor amenities. If I could give the Safehouse 10 Stars, I would on all counts! Eight of us stayed here and I couldn't have asked for more perfect accommodations. THE HOUSE: The owners have utilized every bit of space in the home for the perfect vacation spot. Very, very clean and updated with simple yet tasteful furnishings. The home is roomy with 3 bedrooms (really, 4 if you count the bunk area) and 2 full baths. The main living/kitchen/dining areas are on the main level and at the back of the house with all the comforts you need; along with the beautiful view of the lake in the background!! Preparing meals was never more enjoyable with this kind of view. Off the main living area is a deck that goes across the entire back of the house. This was perfect for eating outdoors with yet that wonderful view of the lake! There is also a fire pit which was perfect for smores in the evening. THE LOCATION: The Safehouse is located on a beautiful (and deep) cove with great swimming right off their dock. A lot of time was spent here between swimming and late-night fishing. It's also across the cove from a great (and popular) jumping cliff. We rented a ski boat for a couple of days and explored Norris Lake and found the location of the Safehouse to be in a more quiet part of the lake. Most of the time we felt that we had the entire lake to ourselves. You are just about a 15-minute boat ride to Twin Coves Marina or 30 minutes to Sequoyah Marina. Both of which have good food! Believe me, you CANNOT beat this location! THE OWNERS: I have rented through VRBO several times including places in North Carolina, Florida and Hawaii. We've always had good luck with owners and properties but the Safehouse owners Julie and Eric knocked it out of the park. They were as nice as you could ask for and so easy to work with. Julie was always just an email away. She answered any questions I had with detail; whether it was great places to eat, boat rental recommendations or lake information. It was so obvious to me how much they clearly love their home and Norris Lake and were more than willing to convey that! The Safehouse more than fit our needs for the perfect Norris Lake vacation. I cannot recommend it enough and cannot wait to plan our next trip there!!"

  • Great getaway

"This property is a wonderful location. Has great layout and space for a large group. Have stayed several years now and am planning to do so again in 2017. Kitchen is well supplied with plenty of cooking utensils and dishes. The roofed boat dock provides shade when wanted. Easy to work with owner and a handyman is only a phone call away."

  • Beautiful views, very nice home..

"We have stayed at several properties at Norris, and plan to retire here. We brought our children, brother and sister in law, my parents and our grandchildren. This home was ready for us. Beautiful master bedroom, with nice master bath. The home is well decorated and it was very clean when we arrived.Kitchen is well stocked and we brought too many items from my pantry- as there were a lot of spices and things we don't normally have. Bill was easy to work with, and the next door neighbor Bill came over to see what he could do to help when our boat had problems. He gave us numbers and names of people to call for work to be done. Ultimately we just used the pontoon that my parents brought, but he was very helpful. The only downfall to the location of the home was the utter uselessness of our AT&T cell phones. My Brother in law and sister in law had Verizon, and theirs worked most of the time. We could get reception on the lake in a couple of spots and since I work by phone we had to make a couple of trips daily to get messages. We didnt want to leave and look forward to another possible stay at the Vogel's home. Thanks Bill!!"
