  • Great Getaway!

"My wife and I came to Rocky Top Lodge with 2 other couples, one couple with a 2 year old and the other with a 4 year old and 8 year old. We came up for a long weekend for the wives to run the Great Smoky Mountains Half Marathon. Rocky Top Lodge is amazing! The location is great, the cabin is great, and it is stocked with practically anything you could need. The view is spectacular. I am so jealous of the huge kitchen. The hot tub is very nice and was especially good for the ladies after the 1/2. There is plenty of space so that nobody was ever on top of anybody else, and the large table was great for all of us to eat together. There were plenty of toys that the little kids enjoyed, especially the rocking horses, and the big kids enjoyed the pool table and the grill. The surrounding areas are really beautiful too and I wish we had had more time to explore. And if you are in the area, you MUST eat at Elvira's Café. We all had brunch there before heading back home and it was fantastic. We also had lunch one day at the Black Bear Café which is also very good. There is a minor issue with the large coffee pot, some sort of problem where it spills everywhere when you try to pour from it - though that did not stop us from getting caffeinated! The only major issue is the deck. It really needs some repair. Some places have previously been repaired, but there are still several nail pops and loose and split boards. Most of these are around the hot tub, which is where you are most likely to be barefoot. I would NOT recommend going barefoot on the deck, especially at night. I seriously injured my foot the night before the race - luckily I was not there to run and this did not happen to one of the ladies or the kids. There are many signs around the cabin with the rules and checkout procedures and instructions on how to work things - which I thoroughly appreciate being a detailed person myself. Until the deck is fully repaired I would recommend an additional sign be added warning guests to wear shoes on the deck. I would have given a 5 star review, even with the deck issues, if my foot wasn't still killing me. All in all it was a wonderful weekend and we are already talking about returning to the same cabin for next year's half marathon!"

  • Danielle W.

"Stayed at this cabin with some friends and family for Labor Day weekend. It is a beautiful cabin with lots of room. Will accommodate two families very comfortably! The upstairs loft with the twin beds would be perfect for a family with children to have their own space but still be in sight. The location was great, and David was a pleasure to rent from. We were very satisfied with our stay and would rent again in the future."

  • Great Location for Pigeon Forge -- just needs a bit of TLC and restocking

"Overall I would give this house a 4.25 to 4.5 star rating if I could. The location cannot be beat. It is 6 miles from the main parkway in Pigeon Forge (same distance to Kroger and Publix grocery store). About 5 miles from the less traveled north entrance to the Smoky Mountain Park and 9 miles from Townsend, TN. The view is great but you can hear the street noise from Wears Valley Road. The house is tastefully decorated but it has taken a bit of a beating this summer. Floors are scratched on the main level. The dinner table top has some damage but still worked for our nightly domino games. We liked the three bedrooms each had a king bed. But it was very clean. But the stairs are steep and not recommended for small children and there is not really any place to walk a dog (it says it is pet friendly). The grill is charcoal and has seen better days but still workable. The kitchen needs a bit restocking (cutting board, more silverware, wine glasses, cookie sheet). It comes with only dish and dishwasher soap and had a pepper shaker, so plan to bring all stables. There were plenty of pots and pans but no colander to drain pasta. There was plenty of plates but need more silverware. The bathroom is a bit dark with only one counter and could use some hand towels and additional towel racks. Water pressure was good. Beds were super comfy. The house is tall with 3 levels and one bedroom in a separate loft area ( but with door). We liked the foosball and pool table, but never used the home theater. Odd thing was there was no directions on how to set the TVs (we messed up the output or something on two of them and never got them working again although Brandon the manager offered to come out). Three lamps were missing light bulbs but Brandon quickly rectified that as well as got us more drinking glasses. He apologized for the bit of damage that had happened to the house and promised to do a full inventory and restock it. There was also no information on any activities or restaurants in the area. We did leave our brochures for a future renter. Do be warned that the house has a "for sale" sign in front of it so not sure what the future holds. Be sure to put all trash in the proper container and lock it back up cause on our first day we had a black bear trying to get at the prior renters trash. Brandon (manager) efforts raised this score to 4 1/2 so the owner is lucky to have him."
