"We just returned from this property and had an incredible time. The decks are fabulous with a gorgeous view. The house is really great, lots of room, outdoor furniture, kitchen with everything, laundry, and views from all three floors. The town of Cookeville is a 1/2 hour drive away. I suggest checking in with enough food to get you through the first day, see what supplies you need, then head into town. We visited the Wal-Mart on the way in once, and then only one other time when we figured out the supplies we needed for 4 days.
We made much use of the canoe, however, getting it up and down the bank was a bit of a pill, I would suggest creating some kind of easier way to get it down there and back up. Not sure what that would be, but the bank is steep, and the canoe is heavier than it looks. Combined with slick grass, mud, rock, and roots, it wasn't easy. There is a boat ramp very close, but we didn't have any way to get it there, so we had to get it up and down the hill.
But, the payoff is worth it. Having unlimited use of the canoe is a fantastic amenity to this property. We stayed out several hours a day, exploring all the nooks and beaches this lake has to offer. We had the lake nearly to ourselves. We saw deer, a coyote, a bald eagle and blue heron. We loved being out at sunset, just gorgeous.
In regard to the review about it not being private, we found that once you got in the house, it seemed very private. Your view is completely out to the lake. I had to cover some windows with sheets (curtains would be appreciated!) but most of the windows are facing the lake, and there is noone out there to look in. The neighborhood was virtually empty at this time, we only heard one neighbor two doors down, twice when she was outside on the phone. Other than that, we only heard people at the boat ramp.
Being that the area had no rain for an extended period, I didn't get the vibrant fall colors I was looking for, but I would 100% return to this property.
