  • Basic Texas Charm

"I stayed in the small cabin. It has all the basics you need and Curt is a charming host with a wealth of information about the area. It is a bit of a drive to the entrance of Big Bend park including a couple bumpy miles but it is quiet and has amazing views. One of the highlights for me where the rescued burros that hang out by the cabins. Be sure to bring extra apples and carrots."

  • Wonderful!

"We had a great 4 night stay at the rancho - 2 families of friends, total 4 adults and 4 kids ages 11-6 and loved it! It is conviniently located to go to the Big Bend (about 1 hour to any corner of the park), easy to explore Terlingua and more - making it a great base for exploring the area. The house has everything you need and more - we cooked all our meals at home (breakfasts and dinners) - there was more than enough of everything - plates, mugs, silverware, pots, pans etc. We were happy to use the grill for bbq. In addition there are so much small extras: walking sticks, flash lights, books about the area, night sky guide, porch with table , chairs, rocking chair... So much fun!!!! We spent the evenings at the porch stargazing and even saw some "falling stars". Hope that are wish to come back will come true!"

  • Veru fun and neat place to stay in the Big Bend area

"The retreat was very easy to reserve and Janet was very responsive to my questions. They provide a code just in case you're driving from somewhere far and get in late so you don't have to worry about late arrivals. I took my son to Big Bend and wanted to stay somewhere unique and really experience the beauty of the area. We drove to big bend each day and on the way had breakfast at a very good restaurant in Ghost Town. We also drove to the McDonald observatory to attend the star party event they do on certain nights which i highly recommend doing that and be sure to reserve in advance. The stars are absolutely beautiful with no light pollution and they have several telescopes for people to look at star clusters, other galaxies, etc. On the way back we had dinner in Alpine which is very neat town and was surprised by the type restaurants they had for such a small town. The house was very clean and i felt very comfortable on the first night which is huge for me to say because i typically have a hard time adjusting to hotels, even nice ones. The home has everything you need and even provide extra things that you may have forgotten for cooking so the owners go well and above making sure their visitors will enjoy their stay. All of the locals who live in the ranch area are very friendly and make you feel like you're apart of the community which was nice considering how some people treat outsiders from big cities. I plan making a second trip when my son is a little older so we can go on longer hikes and will stay at the same retreat. Janet, thank you for your hospitality!."

  • excellent, as usual...

"my husband and i go to Huffman Pond to renew and recharge at least once a year. Our stay is always perfect and we have to drag ourselves out of there before they kick us out. the scenery is so peaceful, the cabin itself is comfortable and always clean, there is nothing you need that Janet and her husband have not provided for us beforehand. if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet among the raw natural beauty of Big Bend, this is the place to visit; in case you must have a connection to the outside world, you do have cell phone reception and internet services..."
