  • Great location, comfortable

"The house is within walking distance to the main places in Marathon. Very comfortable & mainly quiet. Janet met us & gave us the tour & history of the house. She also gave recommendations of where to eat."

  • Perfection!

"I just spent the month of August in the Windmill House and found it to be perfect. So much thought was put into to making it most comfortable and user friendly for the renter. It's spare, in the positive Marfa kind of way, but all of the essentials are provided. Furniture and bed is comfortable, kitchen well equipped, WiFi excellent, air-conditioner efficient, linens high-quality. The house was impeccably clean on my arrival and very easy to maintain. And the view from the porch is magnificent! When I first arrived I was concerned that the house seemed to be located on the edge of town. But after spending a month there I realized the location is ideal. I'm female and spent the month alone in the house and felt totally safe. It's about a six minute walk to the main street of town and the advantage of the location is absolute quiet and unobstructed eastern views. I spent hours in the butterfly chairs on the porch just watching the sunrise, Texas storms rolling through, rabbits frolicking in the grass, road-runners bouncing around and Hummingbirds feeding on the flowers. The landscaping around the house is perfectly suited to the environment. The owners could not have been more communicative and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend the Windmill House to anyone who is looking for the quintessential Marfa experience."

  • Great modern space!

"We loved our three days in Marfa at this bright, modern, airy house, easy to find, and the owner made it super simple to get in once we arrived. We came to see the Perseids meteor shower and the backyard was a great vantage point the first night. Unfortunately we got rain after that, but the screened porch was the perfect place to watch the storms come and go, eat meals, or just gaze at the lovely xeriscaped backyard. Clean, thoughtfully appointed, fun artwork perfectly scaled to the space, nice crisp linens, three options for sleeping - soft, medium, and firm. The ladder to the loft took a *little* getting used to---could be an issue for older travelers or anyone with an injury or other limitation. Rain showerhead wasn't the strongest water pressure, and does splash a bit so be aware of that before you step in. It's 25 mins to the Prada store, well situated for excursions to Ft. Davis, the McDonald Observatory, and Balmorhea. Right next door to a pho restaurant (Marpho, get it?), a two minute walk from a Mexican food restaurant. Close to El Cheapo liquor but their inventory is NOT cheapo, so I'd recommend bring your own if you want wine, beer or cocktails. Other things to note - if you're sharing space with people you don't know well, there's not a ton of privacy, but for two people or a family of four, was just right, especially as what you give up in having a bunch of rooms with doors, you gain back with the light and high ceilings, clerestory windows letting in plenty of sun. It is on Marfa's main street, so there's night traffic with 18-wheelers, and you can hear the train, but that is pretty much the case from Marathon to Valentine and beyond. Thanks so much; we hope to be back!"

  • Perfect remote off the grid escape

"Hoffman Pond Cabin is a perfect off the grid cabin setup. Perched up high on the back side of a mound to catch a perfect breeze. Veiws are awesome and the night is dark for great star gazing! You do need a high clearance vehicle and if it rains it does need to be a 4X4(trust me on that one). Only thing we missed was not having was a fire ring and the ability to enjoy an open fire at night. That aside, look forward to our next stay."
