  • Location, location, location ~ Great Stay

"Gathered the family for the long 3 day Labor Day weekend... We needed a place that was "kid friendly". A place where we wouldn't have to worry if they put their feet up or spilled a soda on the floor (none of which happened anyway).. Although not fancy, this canal home came well equipped, is cozy and casual. The beds are comfortable, the place was clean and there was plenty of room for everyone (7 adults, 6 "tweens"). The kitchen had everything we needed (I did bring our ice crushing blender) and there was plenty of room to serve meals at the counter and still seat everyone between the dining area and the stools. We even baked up some chocolate cookies! The two separate TV areas (one up, one down) worked well for our group as the youngsters enjoyed their own space for board games and computer time. Everyone especially enjoyed fishing and swimming in the canal and there is even a crab trap to use! There is an underwater light so we fished well into the very late hours as well. We caught a few, but threw everything back for the next renters! We enjoyed our 11 ft. Boston Whaler which we were able to launch at the boat launch and tie up right in front of the house.. Motored over to the restaurant at the marina Friday night for a lovely dinner. Fresh bait, ice, beer and more were conveniently purchased there also.. We also enjoyed some beach time at Sea Isle's Gulf side private beach. This place has incredible views from the deck!! Sunsets in West Bay were spectacular and the mornings were serene and beautiful. The location attributed to clearer water and West Bay accessible which is exactly what we wanted. The owner was easy to communicate with and very patient with all my questions. He made the process easy and comfortable. We would go back and do this all over again. This property shows some wear, but it was comfortable, spacious, clean with comfy furniture & great A/C. Location superb!!"

  • Great

"The house was a hit for everyone. The only advice I could give the owners is to have a blanket on each bed as the quilts were way to warm for our sleeping comfort. The air conditioner did not keep the upstairs at a comfortable temperature. We loved the beach access and overall we had a great time."

  • Great Beach House!!

"If you love to fish the canals, or hang out at the downstairs bar in the shade, with fans and TV, it's a great place!"

  • Great place for a group of friends and long weekend

"Positives-more than enough room for group of 8; far enough off the beaten path to be quiet and with very little traffic; well equipped with utensils, towels and bedding; washer/dryer and dishwasher made cleaning up very easy; great deck; right on beach; outdoor shower w/extra bathroom and utility room downstairs with fridge; 3 minutes to marina with great bar/restaurant and private fishing pier; less than 5 minutes to grocery store and gas Negatives-initial posted pricing on VRBO site for our 3-day weekend was significantly lower than actual price (addressed in the very beginning of rental process so there were no big surprises at check out), management company paperwork was a huge hassle and there is a $55 "service" charge if you change the name of the person picking up the key. When asked what the service fee covered it was explained that a new folder had to be created for the person picking up the key-expensive folder! We lost electricity for one full night but weather was stormy. Wifi worked maybe half the time but again, we're far enough out from the nearest city that those problems were anticipated and almost appreciated. Finally, we had two very expensive rod and reels stolen (about $400 worth) from the beach overnight. We have stayed in this house for the last 3-4 years and never had anything stolen. We've always left our rods in holders on the beach overnight because this area is very safe but this one time we got burned.(it is a public beach after all!) We learned our lesson and will always bring our beach toys, fishing gear, chairs, coolers, etc. back to the house each night."
