  • Wonderful family gathering

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: All twelve guests had a wonderful time in this spacious house. Cooking utensils were a little scarce but we made do with our cooking. The bedroom just off of the kitchen has no door which was bothersome but again we made it work. The double garage was nice since we had so many cars BUT, there was a boat on one side so we only had one side of the garage to use. All and was great!"

  • Winter Texans Love Port A

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have stayed in several rental homes in the past and the Papaya House was our favorite, It was clean and well maintained. Plus we love the neighborhood in its quiet charm and lovely streets. 'We also appreciated comfortable furniture and beds and a well appointed kitchen. We have booked the house for next year! Port A Escapes were very helpful in anything we needed and always acted promptly."

  • The good, the not-so-good, and the odd

"We had a great vacation in Port Aransas. Regarding this efficiency, here's the facts: it has a nice view (just like the photos) and is close to the beach, in an older resort. The bed was comfy, and the unit clean (not spotless or fancy, but I'm picky). Being an older room - though recently updated - and because it was closed up, it smelled too much like stale Febreze in there, so we opened the balcony door and turned on a fan. Much better! Problem solved. We stayed two nights, but I would have enjoyed a longer stay because I liked the hot tub - very well maintained - and the views. This November, the weather was mild enough to sit outside to watch the sunrise or the sunset, with no bugs. The balcony faces a southerly direction, so the sunlight is not too strong. I loved being able to walk down the well-kept boardwalk to the beach. The resort staff are very professional and helpful, so five stars to them, and other guests were friendly. Now, the not-so-good and odd: access to the rooms, the boardwalk, or the pool area are through the parking garage. My husband and I called this resort a set from Tatooine, Star Wars, Episode One. The hallways are like catwalks through sandcastles. Hey, it's called the Sandcastle for a reason! I'm going to admit, it was a little eerie with the wind blowing and moaning through and the rain dripping down during a storm. Unfortunately, the roof was getting replaced while we were there, so we endured some inconvenience from that racket, as well as the next-door unit, where a large dog barked for an hour one night. If people consider staying at the Sandcastle, I would not recommend the lower floors on the north side facing the pool because the hot tub motors are above-ground and terribly noisy, and I imagine you could hear the cars in the parking garage below. That's speculation, though. We were on the 4th floor, which mitigated the construction noise and hot tub motor better. Next time, we plan to try a different area in town, but I would say give this place a try if you want to be on the beach and wake up to see the shore. Personally, I think this place may be best in the off-season, and I'd say be choosy about which unit to take."
