  • Wonderful house in a tranquil location

"This lakefront house was perfect for us and Olivia's ready assistance throughout the week put the icing on this cake. She was outstanding. Six of us (parents and young adults all in one family and a friend) stayed Thanksgiving week at Lake Fairlee. Although the lake is often seen as a summer destination we found plenty to do during the holiday week, both in the house and in the area. We had light snow several days which made the landscape very beautiful and the fireplace in the living room was perfect for warming everyone up after time outside running, walking or playing badminton. The kitchen was well stocked and the few extra things we needed to cook for a crowd Olivia readily provided as soon as I told her of our plans. The house was set up just as we'd arranged through Olivia in advance. Everything was clean, tidy and comfortable when we arrived and the food to greet us (cinnamon bread, granola and maple syrup) was a very nice touch. The house also had kayaks and canoes and when the temperature nudged towards 40 we paddled on the lake. Wonderful. Beds were very comfortable, good water pressure and wi-fi. Mesmerizing views of the changing conditions on the lake:fog, low clouds, rain, snow, sunrise. It was all nice to us. Highly recommend. Our crew is already talking about a return."

  • Rustic A Frame on Pretty Little Lake - Here's What I Wish I Had Known

"When we rented this cabin, there was very little information on the listing, only 1 or 2 pictures, and zero reviews. Here's what I wish I had known before we rented: The cabin is "self catering" which means you bring all your own linens, blankets, and towels. Not a big deal since you don't pay an additional fee for linens, but just would have been nice for this to have been noted before. You're expected to clean before you go. Also not a big deal - saves you money - right? But this is banking on the hope that the folks before you were good cleaners. Personally, I would rather pay someone $100 to get it really clean...when we arrived, the bathroom was not very clean at all, I immediately used disinfecting wipes on everything. The kitchen and fridge did seem clean, however. The cabin is very old (the tin/metal? sink/cabinets combo in the kitchen is charming - reminds me of my grandparents home) and in that way, it's hard for it to feel super clean. Said kitchen is (as was noted in description) a galley kitchen and is adequate - I was able to feed a family of 5 simple meals all week with creativity. Do not expect to make gourmet meals. There was a "not working gas grill" on the property, so we purchased (and left) a basic charcoal grill. The property itself, on the lake (there is a dirt driveway between your porch and the lake that cars are periodically using) is nice. The lake is very pretty and there is a little fire pit (with tiki torches!) right on the edge of the water - which we enjoyed very much. It's extremely quiet and the hills and stars and natural beauty are really quite great! The beach and swimming area are about 200 yards down previously mentioned driveway and are shared with several other cabins in the area. The beach area is also lovely and it was never too crowded while we were there. Having the use of the kayak and canoes was another huge plus - it was really fun to explore the lake with our kids. We went on a couple of nearby hikes and it does seem like the area is a pleasant one to explore. We enjoyed the local Polar Caves, too! Working with Bruce was great - he was responsive, accommodating and hospitable! We did have one encounter with his brother in law, Steve, who lives somewhere nearby in which we were treated extremely rudely - he was aggressive and generally quite disrespectful, considering the fact that we are actual human beings. We had no cell phone service and there is no wifi. The TV is DVD only."

  • So restful!

"What a wonderful home...Secluded, serene, restful, quiet, with every possible amenity. Truly felt like home. All we had to do was food shop and check in. Wish it were closer to the lake, but we had access to pickup truck to get the kayaks there for a wonderful experience. I brought books to read and never opened ONE. The view was too beautiful and the hammock swing too comfy. We brought our little dogs and they loved it too!! We will be back!"

  • Wonderful Weekend in Hanover

"While in Hanover for Sophomore Summer Weekend, we enjoyed two nights in this great house. Lots of character and very accommodating for two or more people. A great kitchen and a new grill were of particular interest to us. The location, 1.5 miles from the quad, is also a major plus."
