  • Heaven on earth

"We feel very fortunate to have stayed in such a beautiful location. It was just what the doctor ordered- quiet, peaceful and absolutely beautiful! We hope to return in the future."

  • Very nice

"This is a really beautiful property. We walked the trails and enjoyed watching the rain come through on the big covered porch. Ther is plenty of room for food with two refrigerators. As others have suggested, make sure you bring everything you need. It is a long haul through country roads to the nearest town. Bring camp chairs because there is not nearly enough outdoor seating, especially if you have a large group. I do have a couple of suggestions for the owners. I understand from past comments that you are continually improving the property, so i hope my comments help. You need a power strip in the basement. There are several things to be plugged in, and only one outlet. You also need trash receptacles outside (preferably bear proof as we did see a nice sized black bear while we were there). Taking the trash down to a dumpster at a convenience store a couple miles down the road is not an acceptable solution. There is not nearly enough outdoor seating. Even if you just have some cheap camp chairs. More seating in the basement would be good too, especially if everyone wants to wat h a movie down there. Additional shelving in the kitchen would help. We did not have nearly enough room for non-refrigerated food. That big pantry on the right side and the corner cabinet would be much more useful with more shelving. Overall, a really beautiful place and I would stay here again. Thanks for your help while we were there."

  • Relaxing, beautiful cottage with lovely garden

"My two daughters (11 and 13) stayed at Meadow Cottage for a week and had a wonderful time. The cottage is charming and so peaceful (I slept better than I have for years), and the garden/yard is beautiful. There are several areas to sit and read a book outside, have morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening - the porches on the front and back of the house as well as a fire pit and a table and chairs in the garden. Jim and Jennifer are the kindest people and we loved getting to know them - the pastries and coffee/tea/juices left for our arrival made us feel instantly welcome. We stayed during the Abingdon Arts festival and spent a couple of days wandering around there, we also (upon Jennifer's suggestion) biked the 18 mile Virginia Creeper trail which was so much fun! It's the easiest bike ride we have ever been on - a shuttle drives you to the top of the mountain and the entire ride is downhill with multiple places to stop and climb rocks or put your feet in the water. We also kayaked which the girls loved and the biggest hit was seeing Mamma Mia at the Barter theater. We plan on returning - Abingdon is a lovely little town and we will absolutely stay at one of Jennifer and Jim's properties again. They become like friends!"
