  • great lake retreat

"A group of our friends, all of us with young families, enjoy getting away to the lake for vacation. This house housed 5 families. The back yard was great for kids and the dock was great for both the little kids and the big kids alike. The house is located close to many conveniences in case you forgot or ran out of something. We hope to be back."

  • Wonderful view, quiet neighborhood, great house.

"Our family of 4 (+ extended family of 3) had a wonderful stay at this house. The view from the porch is amazing and the neighborhood is so quiet and nice. We really liked the location in the nice cove away from the heavily traveled channel but it was close to all we wanted to see by boat (and grocery store etc. is not far by car.) We would definitely stay in this home again and the owners were wonderful to deal with and so helpful during our stay."

  • Thanksgiving Family Reunion

"First of all our family had a great vacation at this lake house and the weather was gorgeous! The view of the lake and the open floor plan are the best things going for this house. This house was very clean when we arrived, which makes you feel good! The kitchen appliances, TV's, fireplace, and pool table were all very good. We also enjoyed the outdoor fire pit at night and rented a pontoon for a day to enjoy the lake! Of course being able to bring our two dogs with us was a plus also! There are a few things that didn't suit us and this is why I didn't give it a 5 star rating. 1. The upstair queen bedroom is in a laundry room with just about 12" on each side of the bed. Absolutely no where to put a suitcase on the floor and no furniture in the the room. The closet was completely filled with the washer and dryer. I'm not sure how this house qualifies as a 5 bedroom house. 2. The bunk bed room is a small office, no closet. 3. One of the downstairs queen bed had broken springs on one side of the mattress making it awkward for sleeping. The rest of the mattresses were ok. 4. The washing machine has a problem with cold water. If you use warm water it does much better. 5. The outside stairway going from the house to the lake are poor. They are very narrow, no railings in places, Steep and uneven. I cannot imagine walking your small children down these steps carrying a picnic lunch, drinks and a towel to the dock. 5. There are no large knives! Can you imagine carving a turkey and ham with a dull steak knife??? The kitchen was short on large mixing bowls and no platters. Our family can make the best of any situation! We had a great time and made things work out. Thank you for allowing our family to have a terrific Thanksgiving Family Reunion! Pam"

  • Nice, quite break on SML.

"The property was as described. Nice view of the main channel of Smith Mountain Lake. We visited during a very quite time of the year. Shore Thing was the perfect spot for a short stay over on a longer trip. We spent a relaxing day on a rented pontoon boat and used the dock to slip for a quick lunch. Do bring all condiments for cooking. The only thing available was a salt and pepper shaker. Not a problem for us, as we only stayed a short time and only cooked breakfasts."
