  • Great Lake House

"We rented this house for our family of four (with kids age 5 and 7) to enjoy a few days of rest. We loved this house and wish it were closer so that we could come back more often! This is obviously a family house, so it felt like we were staying in someone's home - very comfortable and neat, but not a pristine and over-decorated showhome. The kitchen is very well-equipped, and we had a great time, even on a rainy day. The screened porch was heaven for me! My only word of advice is to bring your own water as there is a sulfer-type smell that my kids wouldn't use to brush their teeth or drink. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again! Thank you, Strand family, for sharing your home!"

  • Property just as shown in pictures, Great view!

"We had a wonderful time at this home on SML. The home looks just as the pictures depicts it. The house had a great deck upstairs which we stayed on most of the time chatting. The kitchen had all the amenities that you would ever need. Plenty of dishes, glasses and pans for cooking. The bar area was great for socializing and there was lots of seating for formal dining. There were plenty of informational brochures for people visiting for the first time. There are games, cards, Wii, movies for those who want to play or watch while there. We actually did play cards and Yahtzee. Many sleeping areas for large groups. There was even shampoo and conditioner in the showers, which I was surprised about. Liquid hand soap was provided in all the bathrooms, as were tissues. The dock had several chairs and a large umbrella for those wanting some shade. Lots of deep water in that cove for swimming and the fish were jumping up out of the lake just waiting to be caught! We enjoyed the water toys. Kayaks and paddleboards. There are lots of noodles and life vests of assorted sizes. The hot tub had a great view of the lake. We celebrated my 50th birthday there and everyone raved at what a great time we had and how nice the house was. Tom was so super easy to work with! Such a great guy with a very lovely home at the lake. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The location is close to the grocery store and pretty much any entertainment you might want to find. I am a little partial to SML as I used to live there! It was nice to be able to spend a little time on the water for my birthday!! SUPER HAPPY!!"

  • Beautiful House

"We booked a last minute reservation due to Hurricane Matthew, but it turned out to be a great change of plans! The owner was very accommodating and had the house cleaned and ready for us very quickly. The house worked out great for our family of eight adults and three children. The big table and open living room were great for family meals and games. We loved the beautiful sunset views over the lake each night. The fire pit was a big hit and we all (kids and adults) enjoyed making s'mores in the cool evenings. During the day it was still warm enough to play on the beach, take out the house canoes, and gather on the dock. The house was a five minute drive from the State park so we took the kids to the playground and all went hiking. We may have found a new destination for our family each fall at Smith Mountain Lake."
