  • Wonderful Getaway!

"This was our 3rd stay at Alice's cottage on the lake. The last time we were there our son was 3 and now 7. We all thoroughly enjoyed relaxing, floating and swimming in the lake. Having the dock there is essential - you can sit outside and catch some sun or go under the covered part for a break. Our weather in July was perfect. We also took the canoe out several times. The views in the morning from the deck are just beautiful - you can see the sun coming through the trees. Very relaxing. We also enjoyed going to the Marina one evening and enjoyed the food and local musicians. Alice remains very easy to work with -- thank you again, Alice!"

  • As advertised and more!

"For once the photos on the web site were a true reflection of what we got. Covered Porches was a very comfortable, clean and well appointed home away from home situated in a small, quiet cove with a great view across Smith Mountain Lake. The layout of the house is such that you can get away from each other for awhile or gather as a group for a meal, watch a movie or play a game. In addition to canoes and a kayak, there was an abundance of water toys for the grandkids. Having the small sand beach was great for the little kids. I would recommend renting a boat at one of the several marinas to explore the lake. I can understand why the owners, who were very responsive and easy to deal with, are proud of their property. I'm sure we will be back."

  • Great week on the lake

"Rich's place was exactly as advertised. Clean, spacious and well supplied. Very large dining table that fit the 11 of us just fine. Plenty of dishes and decent cookware. The grandkids really enjoyed the dock/ swimming area, especially the jumps off the upper deck! The place is very close to Bridgewater, especially by water if you rent or bring a boat or jet ski. The walk down to the dock is closer than it looks in the pictures, but it is a little steep, so if you have mobility issues be aware. The bedrooms and baths are very spacious, and the bunkroom in the basement is a great place for the youngsters. The whole area has matured since I started coming down to SML 15 years ago. The new shopping center down at the RTE 122 intersection has a very nice Food Lion, plus decent Italian and Chinese food, 15 more minutes to Westlake and there is a very good Mexican place called Cancun, I would also recommend Jonathan's, which is before you get to Westlake. We had a great time and I would highly recommend Rich's place."

  • Home away from home

"My husband and I have been coming here for 2 years now. When I know I'm coming, I pack the weekend before because I am so excited to get here. I feel so grateful that Nancy and Phil allow us to bring our fur babies. I love how they have kayaks for us to use, near State Park, screen in porch. It is perfect size for my husband and I. Cozy and comfortable!!! One of my favorite places to come!! Thank you Nancy and Phill for giving us a " home away from home""
