  • Scenic private setting with close trail access.

"Great place! The house was perfect for our vacation. Easy to check into with key in lockbox. Beautiful setting with a trail to the waterfall right behind the house. Spent three days hiking in Shenandoah National Park where we saw waterfalls, amazing scenic vista from summit of Hightop trail, deer, a bobcat, and four black bears. Charlottesville is about an hour away where we visited Monticello and University of Virginia. The house was clean and set up with everything we needed. Loved the large dinning table and that it was "dog friendly". Best to arrive in daylight as road to house is excellent but at top of mountain so it is winding."

  • RELAX--a little piece of heaven!

"We truly enjoyed the serenity of this cabin. As the sign in the kitchen window said--"RELAX"--we did just this! We enjoyed the screened in deck where we had breakfast every morning, and played cards each night. It was so peaceful. We had a great week at this cabin from start to finish! Alice, the owner, was wonderful to work with in making reservations and was really quick to reply. She answered all of our questions and gave us great tips (i.e. where to shop, etc). We loved the location of this cabin--in a small little nook in the back of a cove which kept the water so calm and this made for easier kayaking (brought our own kayak)! We could see and enjoy Smith Mountain from the dock. The guys tried fishing from the dock all week and basically just fed the fish! :) We saw lots of fish around the dock (the water is so clear), but none of them were biting! (Suggest you get your fishing license ahead of time--not many places to get one near the cabin). The deck was partially covered and this was a bonus for when it got really hot. We took advantage of the 2 floors with one couple staying upstairs and the other downstairs-it was nice to have 2 full baths! Everything was so clean and in working order. We had everything we needed in the fully stocked kitchen and took advantage of the propane grill-which was a little tricky to get lit. We took turns washing dishes since there was no dishwasher--wasn't a problem for us at all, we made it work. We were grateful to have the full size washer and dryer available to us in the basement-these came in real handy. During the middle of the week we checked out the lake using a pontoon boat we had rented from Mitchell's Marina before we got there (which is basically just around the corner from the cabin) and had a great time--they were very easy to work with, but I highly recommend you book with them early. We also went hiking at Smith Mountain Lake Park which was about a 15 min drive--a really nice park with some trails on the water's edge and it had a swimming beach (a small fee to park $4). We were sorry we had to leave when our time was up---we definitely want to make it back again to this little piece of heaven!"

  • great place to stay!

"the owner was so accommodating and the bungalow is adorable! even nicer in person than in photos with fresh flowers everywhere and several sweet touches of southern hospitality. perfect place to stay with my two boys for a wedding weekend in C'ville without having to bunk up in a hotel room!"

  • Amazing!

"I would highly recommend staying at this property. It is beautiful and relaxing. A great place to get away from noise pollution and to the charm of the country. The owner is very hospitable and charming like the farm. We have stayed here many years and will continue to go back for many years."
