  • Welcome peace and quiet

"I love Chesabelle and love Scotland. The home is a tasteful, welcoming cottage with pretty views all around and an open airy feeling. It is stocked with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Scotland is an excellent getaway with lots of opportunities for recreation but little in the way of commerce. So it's great to come here with the family and shift gears. Note Chesabelle is not right on the bay - you have to cross Lake Drive and walk along a short path to get there. For extended family get togethers, it would be perfect to rent one of the on- beach properties and Chesabelle so you could have family time on the beach, but still have your own space. Hope to be back soon."

  • Another wonderful vacation at Paradise Found!

"This is our third year coming to Scotland and our second year vacationing in Paradise Found and I could not recommend it any more. We first came to the area to look for shark teeth three years ago when my sons ages 4 and 1, were obsessed with sharks and dinosaur fossils. Three years later, they are now ages 6 and 3 and we still haven't found a shark tooth but we have found lots of toads, lizards, pebbles, seashells, fish and of course crabs! As well as being able to watch sand pipers run on the shore and Ospreys hunt for breakfast, lunch and dinner and then bring it home to their nest. It is a little naturalist's paradise and therefore a parents' and grandparents' because we can relax in comfort while they explore and discover. The house is very well equipped and decorations are beautiful. The views of the bay from the kitchen, sunroom and both decks are amazing! The privacy of the sand and surf outside your door are unbelievable. If you are looking to reconnect with nature, loved ones and/ or yourself this is it."

  • perfect private beach location

"This was our 2nd year staying at Ira's beach cottage. I can't say enough about the property and location. It's a relaxing getaway plain and simple. The screened in porch is by far my favorite spot to sit and just look at the bay the birds the boats and even the occasional fighter jet from the pax river naval base 16 miles north. The house is clean and has everything you need as far as towels linens and dishes and cookware. This is the kind of place you go to unwind...play in calm bay waters and just enjoy nature without the crowds of people. It is very hard to leave here and go back to the reality of work and daily life. Highly recommend!"

  • Stunning location, incomparable views

"This is a positive review. But note the negatives. I would advise addressing concerns with the owner BEFORE booking. There is no local property manager so problems cannot apparently be fixed once youve arrived. Gorgeous property. The private beach really is private and the location quiet and serene. In June, the moonrise over the water in the evenings was amazing. No motorboats, jet skis or other noises. Just the occasional sailboat or -- way off in the distance -- faint views of ships. For some reason, absolutely no bugs or mosquitos, even though they were a problem in the surrounding areas. The deck has 4 very nice lounge chairs with thick cushions. There are also bikes and kayaks. The bay was calm, and shallow for a long way out while we were there. Perfect for swimming kids. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Bedrooms have variety of bed configurations. A child friendly property. There is very very little anywhere nearby. We didn't mind that at all. But be aware it is a very quiet place. There were some maintenance problems. One of the back doors was both not lockable, and would sometimes stick and not open. Something seems to be wrong with the latching mechanism. So the property couldn't be secured at night and also occasionally trapped people in the porch. I told the owner when we first arrived so maybe it's been fixed now. But nobody came to fix it during our stay so you should check on that. There was also no working landline phone (& no cell coverage, which the owner makes clear ). There is phone service to the house but the rechargeable phones there were very old and didn't hold charge so no outgoing calls possible. Again, we notified the owner, who offered to reimburse us if we went to the hardware store and bought a phone, but we didn't want to run errands or do home repair on our vacation. I'm hoping the owner has now replaced the phone. The owner was very friendly and answered emails immediately. But be aware there is no local property manager so problems will not be fixed during your stay. That was fine (though inconvenient) for us. But the fact that there would be no way to even call 911 would be a problem for most people. So you may want to make sure the phone situation has been resolved. The property was tidy but not exactly clean. The cleaning service used clearly didn't clean behind closed curtains or under furniture. Lots of dead bugs and dust and crumbs. I notified the owner, so maybe that will be addressed."
