  • Lovely, relaxing escape

"The home in Mathews, VA is a lovely place to just kick back and relax. There are water views from practically every window. The front porch, with its swing and table with chairs was a great place to sit with a book and a drink and just enjoy the day. We all had a blast down on the dock using the provided crab traps. Such fun! We also took the kayaks out and had a blast on the water. Great way to exercise and feel relaxed at the same time. Finally, the pool... it was a terrific way for all of us to beat the heat and again, simply relax. This is a great away from it all type of location. If you don't want to deal with hustle and bustle or tourist traps this is certainly the place. The home itself is large, comfortable, clean and beautifully appointed. Plenty of towels, washer/dryer, fully loaded kitchen... everything you'd need is at your disposal. We had a really good time here and would recommend it. One word of advice though... be wary of a local bug... chiggers... They are outside in the grass and can really give a nasty bite which is rather itchy. We all found out the hard way. Just mind where you sit and perhaps use bug spray. This is not in any way a negative against the house... we were informed by a local pharmacist that these bugs are everywhere down here. But, that was the only downside to our whole trip. A wonderful time was had by all in this great home."

  • Beautiful home on a beautiful setting!

"We stayed here the week of Aug. 20-27, 2016 for our annual family vacation. Our group of 9 ranged in ages from 2 - 76. The house is clean and beautifully decorated. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out for alone/quiet time or all be together to laugh and play games. The property is situated on a creek to the back of the house, which was excellent for crabbing. The pier out front on the river was perfect for fishing. We had a wonderful time swimming in the pool, canoeing in the creek, playing air hockey/pool, and taking our boat out tubing and fishing. If you want to get away from all the stress of everyday life, this is the perfect place. Very quiet and relaxing. Would highly recommend!!!"

  • Beautiful location, lovely house, manicured grounds, laid back area, great hosts.

"This is a great destination if you want a laid back trip. Bring your favorite food to cook as the kitchen was very well stocked with all the cooking accouterments you should want. It even had a nice selection of spices and basics like flour and sugar. We had a nice flank steak on the grill the first night and found a great sea food distributor for a crab feast the second night. Our daughter and her friend had a fun time at the pool, paddeling the kyacks and crabbing. Dave and Karla were also very attentive to our needs. When we arrived there was a lack of water pressure. I texted Karla and Dave was there within a few minutes to replace the water filters that fixed the problem. Thank you Dave and Karla for a relaxing weekend trip."
