  • Best Vacation Ever!

"Our family of 12 had a wonderful time at Grand View! We enjoyed the spacious house and room to spread out for all--loved the 2 living room areas with flat screen TVs and the FABULOUS master suites on the first floor both with big flat screen TVs. The kitchen was very spacious with a great view of the water and dock. We hung out on the big back porch in late into the evenings and played corn hole on the back lawn overlooking the water. The kids (ages 11-21) loved loved the pool and spent day and night there--lots of pool toys already there. We had older teens who enjoyed the tennis court too! We docked our boat and the guys went fishing out in the Bay everyday and everyone fished and crabbed from the pier too. We had a fish fry one night with all the fish and crabs! The grounds were beautifully maintained! The caretaker was wonderful and even brought us fresh eggs.We went to nearby Gloucester and Mathews for our shopping needs and checked out some of the small shops downtown and had dinner at Willoughby's on the Rappahannock River in White Stone one night ---outstanding seafood and service! This was a peaceful quiet vacation and the kids never wanted to leave the property! I Highly Recommend Grand View to all who want to enjoy spending time with family and friends! Thank You Cathy Leitz (owner) for everything you did to make our vacation the BEST EVER!!! We are already making plans to return next year!"

  • PERFECT HOUSE FOR SIX KIDS UNDER THE AGE OF 7 (YIKES!) AND SEVEN ADULTS!

"My first review, written two years ago after our first visit to Pop Castle, spoke of the history of the house and the beauty of the grounds, as well as the consideration of the owners, the Ramadans, who have provided a fully stocked kitchen, a huge video library, shelves of board games, and a library stocked with books for kids and adults, and a TV and DVD/VCR machine. Two years later and the review still stands as true and "glowing" as ever....though now I want to include the information about the outdoor toys i.e. a complete croquet set, children's basketball net and an adult regulation size basketball net, a double kayak, a couple of adult bikes, lots of chairs for outdoor sitting and beach chairs to take down to the sandy beach. A propane gas grill in excellent condition is provided just off the kitchen door. A rope swing with a wooden seat hanging from the high branches of one of the massive oak trees is popular with all age groups! The house is an historic house on the National Register. Old homes can often have "issues" with wiring and plumbing, insulation and comforts that a newer home may not have. I appreciate that this lovely old home has beautiful bathrooms with all tubs, toilets, and showers working well....that the kitchen is clean and has efficient and well working dishwasher, garbage disposal, 2 refrigerators, and lots of counter space. The washer and dryer are large capacity and work well....the house has multiple and comfortable areas for family gatherings for conversation and games or for private escape to read quietly or work on your computer which picks up wi-fi from anywhere in the house. The Ramadans are to be commended for their commitment to the ongoing maintenance of this large and old house while not interfering with the beauty of the old floors, stairs, banister and the original windows and woodwork throughout. My FAVORITE part of Pop Castle, however, are the magnificent grounds with numerous giant, old magnolia trees and large, centuries old oak trees, the honeysuckle, flowering privet, and a sweeping, lush green lawn that invites one and all to go barefoot. In early June the magnolia trees bloom and the entire yard smells faintly of the subtle lemony fragrance of the magnolia flower. If you are thinking about this VRBO, I hope you will do it.....time spent at Pop Castle is a rare opportunity and creates lasting, lovely memories."

  • Wonderful Week In Urbanna

"We had a fantastic week relaxing with our family in this wonderful river house in Urbanna. The screened-in porch was so perfect; that's where we spent most of our time. Our 23.5' Sea Hunt fit at the dock perfectly, and the bumper padding protected our boat very nicely. Our kids loved the dock which we used for fishing, kayaking and crabbing. The house was super clean, well decorated & furnished very comfortably on a quiet piece of land. We loved fantastic views of the Rappahannock River, Urbanna Harbor & Whitestone Bridge. Urbanna is also a darling place with fun shops & restaurants. A fantastic vacation spot in a quaint Virginia town!! Well Worth the Trip!!"

  • Best vacation ever!

"My husband and I hadn't had a vacation for over 25 years. We were looking to scout out the area as a retirement possibility and came armed with printouts of homes for sale there. Both Mary and Captain Billy were as charming as they could be, helpful but not the least bit intrusive. The cabin was spotless and comfortable and reasonably priced. It is a relaxing setting and we really enjoyed our sunset cruise. The area is just beautiful. We will definitely be back."
