  • Wonderful, relaxing get-away

"The stay at the lodge was by far the most relaxing and enjoyable part of my recent vacation. It was a complete escape from the every day and provided peace, quite and a chance to slow down and enjoy time with family and be around a lot more nature than we get at home. The lodge itself is amazing! It is grand (an understatement), with all modern amenities, but also rustic, gracious and incredibly warm and inviting. Everything we could need was right there in the house or on the property. We didn't stay in the treehouse, but did check it out-- that alone would have been sufficient for a stay as it was a complete house. There was more than enough to do on site, but it wasn't hard to take a nearby excursion to the mountains. One of the most enjoyable aspects was the stunning view. What a treat to have an unobstructed view of the sun striking the Old Rag during the morning and to see the horses playing in the pasture below. Also comforting to have Penny (the caretaker) close by. We didn't see anyone during our stay, but happy to know that someone was nearby if need be, and she couldn't be nicer when we spoke! The house would be ideal for a large family, multiple family get-away, or family reunion. It was a privilege to stay there and hard to leave!"

  • Beautiful and very comfortable cottage close to Old Rag

"5 of us just returned from our annual ladies' weekend hike to Old Rag and a wonderful time at Tucker's Out. We usually stay in a B&B, but it was much better to stay together in one house. And we all agreed that the cottage was in excellent shape, beautifully furnished, with great perks (and trust me when I say that there were perfectionists among our group!). I slept in the window bed upstairs and at night I could look out at the mountain and brilliant stars, almost like camping out but immensely more comfortable! Despite our numbers, the one bath was not an issue. The house is a few minutes' drive from the Old Rag parking lot so we were able to get an early start (and despite the great weather, at that hour it was not crowded). We had a lovely dinner at Thornton Creek grill. And in the morning we took a long walk around the wonderful cottage grounds; loved finding the chairs placed in quiet spots in the woods and the views of the neighboring farms and mountains. Having left our families behind for the weekend, there were some anxieties over the spotty cell coverage but in the end it was a healthy (and too short!) break from the norm of being far too connected! The owner interaction was a breeze. Our group plans to return next year... and I may come back with my family in the meantime."

  • Unique home, convenient location

"Our rental experience at 27 Main was excellent. There are no adjectives to describe this unique home. Furnished with priceless antiques, yet still homey and comfortable. Kitchen and bathrooms beautifully updated and equipped. Convenient location for Shenandoah Nat'l Park and Skyline Drive. In downtown Sperryville, walking distance to Hopkins Ordinary Ale House which became our "home away from home", the General Store and several places to grab a bite to eat. We definitely plan on returning as soon as we can!"
