  • Connecting the Dots

"Today we traveled to Etlan, Virginia where we spent the weekend at Sun Dancer. The property where Spirit Dancer, Sun Dancer and Star Dancer Lodges are located borders on the Shenandoah National Park. This weekend we had no cell phone or Internet connections. These days, we are all used to instant connection via mobile phone or computer. It is technology that makes this possible but when technology is unavailable, we are forced to connect in ways that rely only on face-to-face time where spaces are filled with hugs, discussions and actually doing things together. At night I went outside, listened to the silence above, and saw more stars than I could count. Looking up, I felt a connection to these distant bright balls of gas that inspired people long ago to create pictures and stories by connecting the dots in the sky. Other humans far away also look up at these distant points of light and, like me, are awed. In a way, during our lifetime, we are all our own stars secured to the earth by gravity and given the task of connecting the dots, the spaces among ourselves. My father once asked my husband about his philosophy of afterlife. My husband told him he believes we are made of stardust and that when we die, we become part of the universe. "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.” ~ Carol Sagan What a gift we had this past weekend--millions of points of light."

  • Great mountain retreat!

"We had a wonderful time in this secluded mountain cabin. It was very clean and had everything we needed to relax and unwind from the city and technology. It was so nice to be cell phone service free...our family focused more on each other and the next scrabble challenge instead of technology. Hiking was really close by...we spent our days hiking and nights fishing in the creek (not much luck with the fish though). We really enjoyed our time and would recommend to anyone looking for a rustic, relaxing, mountain retreat."

  • Wonderful

"Had such a lovely time in this beautifully-decorated and restored home. It was perfect for a girls weekend getaway! The owner greeted us personally, showed us around, and told us about the history of the home. She even put fresh flowers out for us to enjoy in the bedroom. The house is located in direct proximity to all the attractions in historic Sperryville, including the Stonewall Abbey yoga studio (most relaxing yoga class I have ever taken, and I don't usually like yoga), the Hopkins Ordinary Aleworks, Rudy's Pizza, Thornton River Grille, Copper Fox Distillery, Headmaster's Pub, etc. A ten-minute drive to the Thornton Gap Station entrance to the Shenandoah National Park, where we were dazzled by the leaves changing for fall. Great trip, would definitely go back!"

  • Quaint Home in the Heart of Virginia

"Our non-profit hosted our annual retreat at this home and loved every minute of it. The property is spacious both inside and out! Everyone loved the goats and donkeys on the farms and the scenic landscape was a breath of fresh air for us city dwellers. The kitchen was excellent, well equipped, and provided plenty of room for us to cook for our large group. Highly recommend this beautiful property!"
