  • Beautiful Property

"We had a wonderful stay and would come back here again. We have stayed at many properties by Shenandoah and this was the best by far. It is right on the water and had beautiful views. The house itself was gorgeous as well. Perfect place to relax!"

  • Great cabin by the water. We had a perfect Christmas!

"My friends and I needed a nice and cozy gateway for Christmas. We found this place because it was close to the mountains, had a Jacuzzi, had enough beds, and was really affordable for the season we were traveling in. It had everything we needed and perfect according to the listing provided. To be completely honestly, after we got there, the place was much better than expected. The Cabin was really clean and had more than enough room for all of us. The kitchen had everything we needed for preparing food we brought along. It was really an amazing retreat. It was quite and refreshing from our daily lives in the DC area with work and life responsibilities. But what we appreciated the most was that the owners were always responsive if we needed anything. Any questions we had, they answered right away. Matter of fact, they went over and beyond. My friend forgot this coffee machine behind after we left and made it back to Northern Virginia. They contact me and let me know that someone forgot the item. They ask if I would like it shipped or if I would like to come back to pick it up. They went out of they'’re way and shipped it for us and really saved us the hassle of having to drive back. We went to multiple cabins before, but this one was by far the most welcoming one. I am sure we will be coming back very soon. Thank you again Fernando & Sissy for the nice experience, Mark"

  • Zen

"I'm a paranoid/hyper big-city girl. I'm afraid I don't do nature very well. But at the same time, I desperately needed some peace and solitude. I certainly found it at River House. A beautiful location, and a very well maintained property. In rentals of this type it's difficult to achieve a balance between rustic and convenient, and this property actually does. The location is quite remote, and some of the road (not much) leading to it could be called challenging, but it's fine (I drive a Prius and had no issues). You are actually ON the Shenandoah River. It's not exactly deepwater, but that allows for lots of water activities. The River House is on a good chunk of land, so there is plenty of privacy. The house itself is significantly larger than it appears. The living room is huge and very comfortable - the furniture seems to have changed a touch from the picture, and now the LR has an enormous sofa and 2 oversized loveseats (sofas, really - they're only loveseats compared to the sofa). Three bedrooms; while I can't exactly say they're huge, they are certainly comfortable and very well-appointed. Enormous kitchen with everything you may need, a separate dining room. And a screened-in porch with a table and benches - my favorite spot, where I speant about 80% of my time here. There's a hottub, too. Wonderful outside accommodations - a grill, a large picnic table, a bench right on the river, firepit, and a cement dock (called "The Dome", as I found out) that offers a spectacular view up and down the river. A separate note on the owner - who wins innumerable accolades for being incredibly gracious woth all my questions and fussing (of which there were a LOT - as I mentioned, I'm a big-city girl, this was new to me). The house was immaculately clean. Bugs. I hate bugs. I was very concerned about potential bugs. And there were hardly any. A spider maybe, a few unidentified flying things that minded their own business, and literally 1 mosquito in 4 days. Which is nothing, considering the location on the water. Perfect for bird-watching, and you'll see quite a bit of pretty fat squirrels. I honestly can't say enough good things about the property and property owner. Can't wait to come back!"

  • sweetest little cabin

"We celebrate our anniversary in a cabin every year. This year, our 20th, was perfect in this sweet little cabin. Let me start with the "above and beyond" ... someone had left the tarp off the firewood pile so the wood was soaked. Andrea brought us dry firewood from her home! Pros: Quiet! Finally an uncluttered cabin free of knickknacks. One of the nicest cabin kitchens we've encountered. Well stocked with matching items (that really resonated with this neat freak). Insulated carafe coffee pot was wonderful for leisurely mornings. Covered deck and clean/splinter free two person rocking chair! We nearly lived out there. With the down throw we brought we even enjoyed coffee out there each morning. Super easy to get to from DC metro area. Bedroom loft upstairs had enough space to put up our large portable camping kennel for our greyhound to sleep in. For those with small children, a pack n' play would fit well. Nighttime is NIGHTTIME! No city lights seeping into the bedroom. Dark dark...wonderful sleep. Being able to hear the river from the bedroom while we drifted off! We aren't hot tub people, but the hot tub looked clean, hot and steamy when we peaked under the cover. We didn't use the downstairs, but a lovely additional bed and bath down there. We assumed it would be "cabin cold" at night, but this cabin has Mitubshi Electric heat/AC units that REALLY heat up the cabin. We didn't use them much as we prefer cooler temps, but boy even setting at 58 at night had us toasty when we came down for coffee. The most refreshing COLDEST tap water! Cons: Not as secluded as we had hoped, but we'd stay here again for sure. The yard is quite muddy (Winter). Our greyhound wears boots when he goes outside so he doesn't bring in dirt at home, but since most dogs don't, we'd highly recommend dog owners bring baby wipes and ready all humans to kick off boots on the porch. Don't venture out for a walk up the road to the right out the driveway. We were charged by a large snarling dog, from the last house at the end of the road and told the road was "private" property. Water goes "off completely" when you first start to use bathroom or kitchen sink; don't panic, it comes back on in less than a minute."
