Amazing Location and Exceptional Property

5 of 5
One of our favorite travel themes has always been "the water". We like boating, sailing, fishing, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, eating at restaurants overlooking the water and even relish small opportunities just to be near the water. The location of this house easily exceeded our need to be near the water. Sitting in the living room looking out the picture windows was an amazing view looking directly over the water. The water, right behind the house, is not the main channel of the Columbia River itself but a back water behind a large island in the Columbia River. The water does move with the river current and you can see the river channel itself in the distance with big ships passing by. You can also clearly see Mount St. Helens on a clear day. And the water wildlife is all around including Bald Eagles, Osprey, Ducks and Heron's. The views are amazing. The house is a ways back off of the main road but the extra drive through the woods to get there just added to our appreciation of the property. We enjoyed talking to Jim the owner about the family history in the Clatskanie area. They have farmed here for decades and still farm the fields here. The house it's self is very nice but humble. We enjoyed it very much. It is two stories and requires some stair climbing which was not a problem for us since it was just my wife and I and my older brother staying here for four nights. We are all retired in our late fifties and early sixties and the house met our needs perfectly. The website description states it has 4 bedrooms but it actually only has 3 bedrooms with a additional pull out couch in a common area down stairs. That is clearly stated lower down in the description but I missed it somehow and I was surprised it only had 3 bedrooms upon arrival. But it was not a problem since we only needed 2 bedrooms. The kitchen was well stocked and we found the washer and dryer to be a nice convenience. The owner was very easy to work with and was quick to respond to my inquiries. Staying here was an exceptional value and I will definitely stay here again. I would recommend it to family and friends without hesitation.
