"My husband, son and I came to the Mats Mats house with a another couple and we were all so impressed! The location couldn't be more serene, with the lawn out back sloping down to the Bay. One of the reasons this house stood out on VRBO was the eclectic decor—very comfortable and contemporary—"beach chic!" The house feels new and very well tended—nothing run down. We like to cook and found everything we needed in the kitchen, along with the bbq on the deck. We felt very spoiled in general. The bedrooms are comfortable and the master bedroom is huge and lovely. We made a lot of friends, too. Today, kayaking from the nearby dock, we met a curious seal. An adorable red squirrel paid visits while we sat by the firepit on the little beach. And blue herons are a frequent sight. I would write more but this is out last night and the salmon's on the grill, so I'll close by saying if you're planning a trip anywhere in this area, this house is quite a special find."

  • Perfect for any size family or group of friends

"This house is awesome and was perfect in so many ways for our two (un-related and very close) families. We have rented many, many vacation homes all over the U.S. and Europe and this by far contains the best layout for families and the most well-equipped house we have ever stayed! The property is exactly as described and pictured (grass was brown though during August - no surprise and certainly doesn't hinder our opinion that this is the greatest find on the island)! The house was very clean and the book/binder provided for guests had every bit of information we needed. The kitchen is fully equipped as if someone lived there on a daily basis - everything you can think of, down to specialty items such as crabbing utensils (which we used many times). The large kitchen island enables multiple people to be working on meal prep (which makes for less time in the kitchen and more beach time!). The sleeping accommodations and layouts are fabulous and the giant game room is perfectly situated and truly has something for all ages, from small children to the adults. The crashing sound of the waves at night were so relaxing and nice to hear. It isn't located on a sandy beach so be sure to bring appropriate footwear. We especially enjoyed the lounge chairs, especially us early risers who could enjoy coffee and private time/chats. Another great feature is the community park (about four or five house lengths away) which in addition to an ample playground for kids, has a very long dock which was great for us to use for our daily crabbing excursions. An added benefit for going in August is that blackberries were in full season so we were able to make cobbler and ice cream (we brought our own machine) - yummy! We chatted with both neighbors and they were friendly and welcoming and provided lots of tidbits about where we should crab, a few good restaurants in Freeland (there aren't many) and other questions we had. The only caveat is that it is not in an area where swimming is a good idea so if that is an important feature, you might want to consider other options. On our last dinner together, everyone chimed in that they wanted to make this an annual event. We CAN'T wait to get our schedules to match up for next year."

  • Impressive

"Toni and Al were the perfect host! They welcomed me when I arrived and advised me what their regular routine was (I.e. Setting alarms). My room/ bathroom was in a separate wing so it seemed a bit more private and had the keys to come in and out of the home. Toni and Al gave some suggestions of where to eat and visit. I would definitely use the home again when I am in Edmonds again."
