  • A cottage with comfort and style

"My husband and I spent the week of Thanksgiving at the Northilla Cabin and found it to be a cozy, beautifully maintained property even in the rainy season. Though we were not able to enjoy the spacious deck at this time of year, we did enjoy the lovely view over the water to Tacoma. It was also a remarkably quiet spot and I slept better there than I have in months. Altogether a lovely place to unwind."

  • We loved this place!

"This was a family birthday getaway for eight people and this place was everything we wanted it to be. The view was spectacular even when there was rain and clouds and the house has so many water facing windows that you are rarely without a view. We had a seven year old with us who loved everything about this place. There are so many places inside and out to explore in this unique house. The living room is a great hanging out space and there is a very cozy tv/reading room for those who want to watch. The four bathrooms make getting eight people ready for the day an easy task and there are tons of towels. The kitchen is very well equipped so there is no need to bring any utensils or pans unless it is very specialized. This was a winter stay but I can only imagine how spectacular this place would be in summer. We hope to return."

  • A very sweet Happy New Year weekend. December 30, 2016 - January 2, 2017.

"We had a perfectly tranquil and relaxed long holiday weekend as we said goodbye to 2016 and brought in the new year, 2017. We prepared wonderful meals in a well equipped kitchen, got a chance to walk on the barnacle beach when the tide was out (sans my pup as the barnacles would harm his pads) and stare at the huge jelly fish waiting for the tide to come back in. We played our acoustic guitars and sang into the morning on New Years Eve... slept soundly thru the nights waking up to the gentle waves underneath us. AND, true to the great pacific northwest winter weather, we experienced sun, rain, clouds and the added bonus of snow on New Years Eve (great fun) but we stayed warm and cozy in the magical little cabin on the water... with all the comforts of home. Clean, bright, inviting and my BF even got to watch the Seahawks game on cable TV! My well behaved little Lhasa Apso, "Teddy" felt right at home enjoying the view out the french doors at the puget sound waves and all the bird wildlife. On the day we had to catch the ferry home, "Teddy" didn't want to leave... nor did we! With the sudden passing of my mother in 2016 this was a great tribute to her and a magical respite for me, personally. Thank you, Erin and family for giving us an opportunity to enjoy your family treasure. I want to come back in April to celebrate my birthday (It's a BIG one!) But, I best go reserve that now! This wonderful home is fast becoming a huge favorite with everyone who's had the pleasure to "walk in and stay a while". Thank you so much... Pamela, Scott and Theodore -Seattle, WA"

  • Great Place for children, adults, and elderly. Lots of parking and beautiful views. Some issues...

"I agree with reviewer Ryan S. on almost all points. Also note that Vashon Island is only accessible via the WSF Ferries and will cost about $30-40 round trip (car and people) to get on and off the ferry. We were there for the SU Graduation and had to wake up at un ungodly hour to make the 8 am pinning ceremony. THE BAD: The Pool: When we got to the property the pool was left uncovered for who knows how long (something maybe the cleaners should put on the checklist) and the pool was filled with dead leaves and was cloudy. The reason we rented this particular home was because we wanted a pool for the children. We still swam in the pool but with reservations. Unfortunately, a pool person was not on the island and would not be available until after we were gone. The Plumbing: On the second to the last day, the plumbing backed up in the master bath. It was okay for us because more than half our family had left by that time and the rest could make do with 2 full baths. The sink in the common bath drained really slowly as well. The Freezer: The freezer overfroze and also leaked from the lower right side. The Housebook: The book is outdated and has instructions for the boat and kayaks. After speaking with the property managers, it was explained that those were off limits due to liability and safety. I fully understand however, the book should be updated. Misc: Bring your own basketball and extra fishing gear. Only 1 pole worked. The owner was great about making things right. Let them know if you have issues right away. THE GREAT: I came home and researched Seattle properties that may have been better for our needs, & could not find one that beat this house. We were a big group with children, adults, and elderly. This house was perfect for us with tons of parking. The multilevel homes on HomeAway could not compare to the single level home that kept us all together for great family time. There is 1 television and that may be an issue for some but not for us. We watched the NBA playoffs (go GSW!) and spent a majority of our time not staring at a screen but actually talking and laughing and looking out at the beautiful water. I know that if we stayed in a multilevel, than we would have been separated. The house was easy on the elders as they did not have stairs to climb and moved freely from bedroom to dining room. The grounds are private and have swings and a great yard for Nerf Wars (watch out for mole poop!) Most of all we felt safe and happy!"
