"The peace of this home enveloped us from the first moment we walked in and continued to bless our Labor Day/wedding weekend. Janett, the local manager, was most gracious in responding to our needs and questions. We all appreciated the little details: the small lap blankets, the abundance of lavender, table linens, basic pantry items, comfortable beds, cozy towels.
The kitchen was wonderful for the cooking we needed to do. Three full ovens, two sinks, dishwasher and 2 refrigerators (One in the basement). There was plenty of room for a large gathering of family and friends for meals. All of the outdoor spaces were so welcoming: having tea at the tables on the terrace near the lavender, soaking up the sun sitting in the Adirondack chairs and reveling in the roses on the patio by the dining room. People gathered on the long porch chatting, bird watching, eating. There were apple and pear trees and berries. The bride and groom had lovely “first look” pictures in the yard below the porch. We saw sunrise every morning across the bay (those of us who were awake!).
General information about the area: Burton’s general store, just a walk down the hill, was helpful for last minute needs (wrapping paper, birthday cards…). The coffee stand had multiple brews and sweets, even gluten free cookies. The bus from Burton provided transport to the commuter water taxi for venturesome souls to visit downtown Seattle. Up the road toward Vashon Center: Minglements is a mix of locally made crafts and organic foods including gluten free staples. The Open Space for the Arts was a wonderful outdoor wedding venue with meadow and pines framing the site we used. Staff were most accomodating in setting up both outdoor and indoor options as well as an expansive reception area. On a clear day Mt Rainier can be seen from there.
**We did not have small children in our group, but it was clear that they would be welcome. There was a bedroom with books and DVD's that would interest the very young up to pre-teens. **"
