"After renting with VRBO in a number of beautiful locations (Arizona, Colorado, and Florida to name a few), we have to say, Gina, that this was by far our favorite. First, I apologize for the late review (we stayed from 6/15/16 thru 7/15/16), but have spent the last week travelling back to our home in Massachusetts.
The home is lovely, spacious, comfortable, and everything needed was provided. But that's only the beginning. The real treasure is the view, or should I say views. From the master bedroom, just about each and every morning would begin with a Great Blue Heron landing on a perch just outside our window where it would preen and sit for as long as 1 1/2 hours. While still lying in bed we could see boat traffic heading to and from the locks. From a second bedroom, the view out to Salmon Bay was breathtaking. From the living room, the panoramic view takes in so much that it was difficult to tear ourselves away to do any sightseeing.
When we did manage to leave, we would often take the short walk (less than 10 minutes) to the Chittenden Locks. But that's not all. Part of the lock structure and dam is the fish ladder with glassed viewing area. During our stay, the Sockeye were running, with a few Chinook just beginning their run. Oh, and if that's not enough, the Botanical Garden adjoins the locks and makes for a peaceful walking area with great opportunities for photography. We often visited the area twice and even three times in a day, participating in the salmon count. Also, nearby Discovery Park has great hiking and birding.
By the way, nearby, and easily accessible, Seattle was full of interesting sights to see such as: Pike's Place, the Needle, the EMP Museum (5 stars), the Gum Wall (feel free to contribute), Chihuly Garden, etc. We very much enjoyed the "underground" walk which took is the original Seattle street level. And DO NOT miss the Argosy Locks Cruise. After viewing the locks as a spectator on foot, take the cruise through the locks and enjoy that perspective. The tour guide on the ship was even nice enough to surreptitiously point out "our home" as our grandchildren's famous and most fun home on the bay.
And she was correct. It was the most fun house on the bay, and you should make it a point to stay there. But please don't rent it when we're intending to stay, which we will assuredly do again in the future.
Restaurants! Lots of great eateries. There's much more, but I'm out of characters.
