  • Perfect Family Island Getaway

"We have been staying at Michelle and Lanie's rental houses for the past 5 years. This year we rented both cottages - SeaSpray and the slightly larger cottage on the same property - for a family reunion. The huge lawn in between the two houses gives my kids amply space to play soccer or badminton or just run around. Each year we have added more "toys" to our journey to Lopez, including stand up paddle boards, bikes, and we always rent a double kayak from the kayak rental place in town - all of which we can keep on the property with us. It makes for the most amazing and adventurous vacation. In 5 years of visiting we still haven't gotten to all the places we want to explore on the island! The cottages are immaculate, beautifully decorated, and very comfortable with stunning views of the water from most rooms. Michelle and Lanie treat us like family, with their kindness (including treats from their garden!) and hospitality. They are also equally aware of giving us lots of privacy and are respectful of us having our own family experience. It is the perfect balance of feeling well-cared for and being on our own, tucked away in the south end of the island with the beautiful Davis Bay only steps away. For the past five years, it has been a great experience for our family, who now range in age from 9 to 87. Clearly we love it because we keep coming back!"

  • It has everything!

"I have stayed at 8 or more VRBO's and I have to say this place had everything we needed. Beautiful view, spectacular sunset, spices we forgot, they had in their cupboard, lists of things to do at the house and in town. There were games, several places to have your morning coffee alone or with your group. Outdoors area for kids to play in the sand, several TV's which we never had time to turn on. The beds were all queen size and a couple futons/couches which would work for more people. The home was well stocked with everything a vacation would need. Thank you Elisabeth."

  • Spectacular New Waterfront Estate

"We were the first family to rent this truly impressive waterfront estate since the owner finished having a new home built to replace an old cabin. The brand new main house is a large, elaborate, high-end custom "beach cottage" but it still has a comfortable and casual feeling. Set close to the water with a low bank near the southern end of White Point, the main house looks across Westcott Bay at Garrison Bay and Horseshoe Bay. It features stainless steel appliances in a gourmet kitchen with white marble counters, custom paneled walls painted in white gloss and stained beam ceilings, heated travertine floors and a steam shower in the master bath, a huge flat screen TV and a stereo system with built-in speakers throughout the house, folding NanaWall doors that open the house up to the outside, an outdoor entertainment area with contemporary wicker patio furniture set in decorative designer gravel, new landscaping with slate walkways, a beautiful new hardwood deck with gas fire-pit and a large Jacuzzi, and on and on... The matching guest house was built about 10 years earlier... Island deer, Blue Heron, sea otters, seals and Bald Eagles abound. Roche Harbor Resort, Spa and Marina is just a mile away. You will not be disappointed!"

  • Family Reunion Perfection, Neighbor Harrassment, Not So Much...

"We rented both homes recently for a family reunion (18-20 people). The property, set on a beautiful orchard and inlet, was absolutely stunning. Both homes were lovely, clean and well-equipped--other than a few light switches that didn't work and some difficulty with the Beach House wi-fi everything was in working order. We had a couple of elderly parents with us and so the Beach House, with it's large outside porch, lot's of comfortable seating and no stairs was a perfect spot for them to be. The ONLY reason I did not give this property a 5-star rating is because of the issues with the neighbors regarding beach access. The property was advertised as having "beach access" and it wasn't until the week before we were to arrive that I was notified of a "4 year lawsuit" that the owners and their neighbors have been involved in regarding beach access for the renters of these properties. I was provided with the legal document, dated August of 2013 granting beach access to renters until the lawsuit is finally settled. I was told that "During past rentals one of our neighbors told our guests that they did not have access to the waterfront, which is completely false" and that "If someone does approach, you just tell them they are wrong and that you know you can use the waterfront. I’ve already talked to the local sheriff and provided them with a copy of the order as well. " Although I did wonder why I was just now getting notified, a week before our scheduled arrival, the directions seemed straightforward and so none of us were concerned. We were not prepared for the level of initial harassment that we received however. Obviously this has been a long-standing disagreement, breeding much resentment and obsession by the neighborhood association. From the first moment we set foot on the beach (which truly you would only be on to launch a kayak--it's a muddy beach at low tide) we were told we couldn't be there, argued with, threatened with Sheriff contact, and given dirty looks once they realized were weren't going anywhere. We are not a rowdy group, we gave them no reason to be bothered by us, yet the comments and threats of "calling the Sheriff" continued throughout the first 2 days. I guess once they saw we were weren't going to bother them, they backed off. Although their behavior absolutely did NOT ruin our gathering--it actually just added to our adventure, it was initially disconcerting and we should have been better prepared for the reality."
