  • Perfect weekend!

"My husband and grown kids enjoyed a long weekend in this wonderful home to say goodby to the summer sun. The property is awesome, very well stocked and decorated. The lake and beach area was so much fun. Spent the days cruising around the lake and playing in the water. We will definitely be back."

  • A great place

"We had a wonderful time. This place was easy to find, the entry instructions were simple, and the furnishings were superior. The half bath upstairs made it a perfect place for our teenage granddaughters. We had a wonderful view of the beach and lots of fun on the beach, in the bay, and in the indoor pool. The weather was gorgeous, and so we also had a wonderful day hiking in the big mountains, specifically the Skyline Divide trail."

  • Magical!

"After 18 years together we finally tied the knot, and we chose the Haro Haiku for our honeymoon getaway. We could not have been more pleased and feel that 5 stars may not be quite enough to express how much we loved this property! After a year of planning and executing a large and elaborate wedding we needed to recharge our batteries and recenter ourselves. This location was exactly what we needed! The home is beautiful and peaceful and the location is magical. After a meandering drive off the main coastal road you reach the driveway that winds down to the house which is tucked away from the world in the heart of the west coast of the island. We spent our mornings sipping coffee listening to and watching the birds, and then twice we were able to listen to and watch the whales from the deck for hours at a time. Yep, just sitting in comfy chairs in our PJs watching whales in their natural habitat without disturbing or disrupting them. We were also able to watch whales at the Wildlife Preserve just up the coast. We ate breakfast at the table on the deck, and had glorious seafood feasts at the bar in the kitchen. We spent the majority of our days beach combing, visiting lighthouses, watching wildlife around the island and going on excursions. We gratefully returned to the Haro Haiku each night feeling lucky to have such a beautiful place to call home during our visit. In the evenings we played games found in the entry closet at the dining room table with a view of the night time ocean, and woke up each morning to the peaceful view of the Olympic mountains and Haro straight. The beds are fantastic, and I may be buying a new mattress after sleeping on the Tuft & Needle in the master bedroom! Before making the reservation I had hesitations about the property owner being on site, but it was a complete non-issue. I met Stephanie one morning at her residence and she was delightful. She and her husband are nearby if you need them, but while at the property you do not feel as though you are being supervised in any way. I can not wait to return to this property to enjoy the island again with my family. My husband wrote a haiku in honor of our stay... The serenity Days and nights filled with beauty Our souls have been cleansed"

  • Family Reunion Perfection, Neighbor Harrassment, Not So Much...

"We rented both homes recently for a family reunion (18-20 people). The property, set on a beautiful orchard and inlet, was absolutely stunning. Both homes were lovely, clean and well-equipped--other than a few light switches that didn't work and some difficulty with the Beach House wi-fi everything was in working order. We had a couple of elderly parents with us and so the Beach House, with it's large outside porch, lot's of comfortable seating and no stairs was a perfect spot for them to be. The ONLY reason I did not give this property a 5-star rating is because of the issues with the neighbors regarding beach access. The property was advertised as having "beach access" and it wasn't until the week before we were to arrive that I was notified of a "4 year lawsuit" that the owners and their neighbors have been involved in regarding beach access for the renters of these properties. I was provided with the legal document, dated August of 2013 granting beach access to renters until the lawsuit is finally settled. I was told that "During past rentals one of our neighbors told our guests that they did not have access to the waterfront, which is completely false" and that "If someone does approach, you just tell them they are wrong and that you know you can use the waterfront. I’ve already talked to the local sheriff and provided them with a copy of the order as well. " Although I did wonder why I was just now getting notified, a week before our scheduled arrival, the directions seemed straightforward and so none of us were concerned. We were not prepared for the level of initial harassment that we received however. Obviously this has been a long-standing disagreement, breeding much resentment and obsession by the neighborhood association. From the first moment we set foot on the beach (which truly you would only be on to launch a kayak--it's a muddy beach at low tide) we were told we couldn't be there, argued with, threatened with Sheriff contact, and given dirty looks once they realized were weren't going anywhere. We are not a rowdy group, we gave them no reason to be bothered by us, yet the comments and threats of "calling the Sheriff" continued throughout the first 2 days. I guess once they saw we were weren't going to bother them, they backed off. Although their behavior absolutely did NOT ruin our gathering--it actually just added to our adventure, it was initially disconcerting and we should have been better prepared for the reality."
