  • Relaxing weekend away with friends

"I decided to gather 9 of my closest friends for a weekend getaway just outside the city. Heading up to Guemes island was a mixture of fun adventure and relaxing getaway. We were able to enjoy our time and below I'll provide the pros/cons and my tips for future vacationers. Pros: The ferry was short, cheap, and travels across often. There was practically no noise, traffic, or other people around at all during our stay, the house is completely surrounded and feels very private. The house was very spacious and provided exactly what we needed for a short weekend away, including some board games and the garage entertainment (pool/ping pong) was greatly appreciated. The back deck is very spacious and it was very easy to accommodate everyone for relaxing and chatting in a large circle. The yard is also very spacious and can easily have multiple people running around at once. Cons: (Most of these cons were a result of me and not the house) There are only a few outdoor chairs, so bring some if you like to lounge. The ferry can only hold 20-22 cars at a time so get there a little early otherwise you may have to wait. There was no outdoor fire pit, which would have been really fun but again there was never one promised so I can't be upset about not having one. The propane tank was empty but we filled it at the local store and the home-owner reimbursed us, yay! Pro-tips: Do your research on the ferry schedule and get there 20-25 minutes early. Pack plenty of chairs and everything you'll need to enjoy they weekend (outdoor games, drinks, water, etc...). If you can't find the ping pong paddles look in the drawers by the garage sink... trust me... they are there! I recommend bringing flip flops or slippers since there is a lot of in and out of the back patio (lazy pro-tip). Bring fancy cooking utensils, the basics are there. The house was amazing and we had a great time, enjoy yourself and do the 1.1 mile Guemes Mountain hike, it was beautiful."

  • Superlative Lake Home Not Far From Seattle

"Our family of 12 adults and 3 kids stayed here for 10 days. This house has something for everyone. The home is gorgeous, well designed, tastefully decorated, warm and welcoming. It has a perfect layout for large groups with a wonderful open kitchen/dining room/living room with large fireplace and plenty of seating. The kitchen is a cook's paradise, and easily accommodates several cooks, with lots of storage, and very nice appliances. There are plenty of spaces to retreat, as well, both inside and out. The media room was (unfortunately!) well used during our stay, because it was quite rainy. But that room was a great place for kids to play (with toys provided by the owners, including--big hit with one of our family members: Thomas trains and tracks), and watch t.v., or for adults to watch t.v. without having the t.v. dominate other activities. There is also a ping pong table in the garage that saw a lot of action during our stay. The sport court is fantastic. We had several lively pickle ball games, as well as basketball, and there were plenty of trikes for the kids to ride around on the paved court. There are also tons of beach toys for kids to use in the sand, and a trampoline island to swim to in the Lake. The Lake is clean, clear, surprisingly warm water (for those of us used to icy northwest lakes!). There's also a charming little stream on the property that was especially attractive to our toddler. There is ample seating inside and out for guests of all ages. The covered portion of the deck was especially nice on rainy days. We used the separate little cabin, which is very accessible (one step up), and quite handy for someone who has difficulty with stairs. The upstairs bunk room is so comfortable for kids--a great play area, with plenty of space to spread out, and separate enough from the rest of the house. It also has its own bathroom. The master bedroom/bath also has a small deck that overlooks the lake. All of the other bedrooms are spacious, with plenty of storage space and very nicely decorated and maintained. The laundry room upstairs is very handy, modern and easy to use. The house is so well equipped in every respect--kitchen, bedrooms, everything you need is there! And, for tall people (our family has 2 over 6'5") the showers, doors, and ceilings gave them the space they loved! It's obvious that the owners put a lot of thought and a lot of love into this property. I can't recommend it highly enough. It really is a premier property."
