  • Amazing views and tranquility

"We stayed for a week in early October, the views and tranquility of this place were awesome. The house is about a 20 minute drive from Friday Harbor and isn't hard to find as long as you don't let my wife navigate. The architecture of the house is certainly as described, a modern and interesting blend of craftsman meets the orient. The layout with the two masters on different levels is nice for multiple families, as in our case we were traveling with friends, three small children, and a dog. We put the kids off in the upstairs wing of the house and took that master and let our friends have their privacy downstairs. The steam shower in the upstairs master was a nice feature. We found a few things around the great room that we needed to move out of reach from the kids but generally very family friendly, and the gated part of the yard down and around from the deck also makes the place dog friendly as other reviewers have noted. The kitchen and BBQ were pretty well stocked with basics and great for prepping meals for seven, although some non-stick pots and pans would have made cleanups easier. Our kids loved looking at the deer from the big window seat and all enjoyed curling up there with a cup of coffee or a book to enjoy the view. Bit of a bummer that there was no TV anywhere in the common space to catch a football game, but it seems to be by design and we didn't really miss it. Overall a great time, but as another reviewer noted, some additional instructions about how to work things around the house like the fireplaces and hot tub would have been helpful as it is a modern house with a lot of buttons and switches and we weren't able to figure those things out. The hot tub never heated up, however the management couple did offer to come out to help, but we decided we'd rather just spend time alone than having people at the house working on things. Cell phone and internet service was also spotty at best, but hopefully that's not why you go to the San Juans. Overall a great place to stay."

  • Family Reunion Perfection, Neighbor Harrassment, Not So Much...

"We rented both homes recently for a family reunion (18-20 people). The property, set on a beautiful orchard and inlet, was absolutely stunning. Both homes were lovely, clean and well-equipped--other than a few light switches that didn't work and some difficulty with the Beach House wi-fi everything was in working order. We had a couple of elderly parents with us and so the Beach House, with it's large outside porch, lot's of comfortable seating and no stairs was a perfect spot for them to be. The ONLY reason I did not give this property a 5-star rating is because of the issues with the neighbors regarding beach access. The property was advertised as having "beach access" and it wasn't until the week before we were to arrive that I was notified of a "4 year lawsuit" that the owners and their neighbors have been involved in regarding beach access for the renters of these properties. I was provided with the legal document, dated August of 2013 granting beach access to renters until the lawsuit is finally settled. I was told that "During past rentals one of our neighbors told our guests that they did not have access to the waterfront, which is completely false" and that "If someone does approach, you just tell them they are wrong and that you know you can use the waterfront. I’ve already talked to the local sheriff and provided them with a copy of the order as well. " Although I did wonder why I was just now getting notified, a week before our scheduled arrival, the directions seemed straightforward and so none of us were concerned. We were not prepared for the level of initial harassment that we received however. Obviously this has been a long-standing disagreement, breeding much resentment and obsession by the neighborhood association. From the first moment we set foot on the beach (which truly you would only be on to launch a kayak--it's a muddy beach at low tide) we were told we couldn't be there, argued with, threatened with Sheriff contact, and given dirty looks once they realized were weren't going anywhere. We are not a rowdy group, we gave them no reason to be bothered by us, yet the comments and threats of "calling the Sheriff" continued throughout the first 2 days. I guess once they saw we were weren't going to bother them, they backed off. Although their behavior absolutely did NOT ruin our gathering--it actually just added to our adventure, it was initially disconcerting and we should have been better prepared for the reality."

  • Great House

"House was clean and well stocked. Location was great. We didn't get to use all the toys provided since it was the weekend of the big storm. Cozy wood stove kept us warm and kids loved the Legos and train tracks. Great selection of movies for the family. Thank you very much, we enjoyed our stay."

  • Great stay on San Juan!

"We stayed in this incredible home for four nights at the end of July. Everything was very clean and comfortable, but the view was outrageous! We had a little difficulty finding the house when we arrived after dark, but once we got in the door, we knew we had arrived! It's a little 80's, but quite luxurious. It was the perfect location for exploring the island. It's located in a beautiful quiet neighborhood where we saw black-tailed deer. There are orange-barked madrona trees lining the shore. The living area and kitchen (and the master bedroom) look out over the water and the sunsets are fabulous. The first morning we were there, we saw a mother and baby Orca out in front of the house. The house is walking distance to Snug Harbor where we went whale watching with Maya's Legacy (and saw two humpback whales!). We spent one day in Roche Harbor and another on Orcas enjoying Moran State Park and the Farmers' Market, before returning to this comfortable home. We had my birthday dinner (my Sweet Sixtieth!) of Dungeness Crab and prawns at the house. We were a little surprised at all the cleaning we were expected to do before leaving, including washing, drying, and folding all the towels and sheets, vacuuming, sanitizing the shower, etc.. There was a checklist, with an explanation that whatever the cleaning crew had to do , beyond one (or two?) hours of work, would be taken out of the deposit. Maybe if we hadn't done all of it (and we cleaned like crazy!), only a $50 fee would have been taken out, but maybe more (???) Karen was very helpful when I left a camera charger there; she mailed it back to Texas for me within a day of finding it. Overall, we would definitely recommend this wonderful place!"
