  • Better than advertised!

"Our stay at Fern Creek was exactly what we were hoping for. The cabin is perfect....very comfy and cozy. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub. We were within ten minutes of everything that we wanted to do but felt like we were in the middle of the woods by ourselves. It helped that no one was staying in the other cabin on the property. During our stay, we ate at the Secret Sandwich Society and Smokey's...both were outstanding. The Endless Wall Trail is a must-hike trail with breathtaking views of the river. We followed Fayette Station Rd down to the river where we found a nice sandy beach swimming hole to watch the rafters go by. This was one of the best weekend getaways my wife and I have ever taken. I cannot recommend the cabin highly enough and I have to agree with one review that I read that stated that the cabin was better than the description and pictures led us to believe. The owners were super easy to communicate with via e-mail and replied quickly to questions. Check-in and Check-out was easy-breezy! We plan to return next year or sooner...this time with the kids."

  • Idyllic, private, and fairly priced. Made for a wonderful weekend with friends.

"30 y.o. male from here from northern wv. Friends and I rented this cabin with hopes of a comfortable and private setting to come back to after partaking in the area's many thrills. We were impressed by the accomodatings available considering the reasonable price (granted, we were there Tu-Th night). Accommodations include: a wrap around deck with a large screened in section that had a 3-4 person hot tub ready for use, very comfortable beds, some of wich had tempurpedic mattresses, xm radio, receiver, indoor-outdoor speakers, 3 bathrooms, washer, dryer, cable in every room, etc... And everything was clean. Very clean. Aside from the many comforts provided in the house we discovered well kept trails that led us to the top of the hill for stargazing and amateur astronomy, as well as a beautiful shaded pond filled with Lillie's and frogs. Outside of the screened in porch was a gravel patio with a fire place on the outside corner and plenty of dry firewood on the other end. Out door lights allowed us to play corn hole (wv horseshoes for the uninitiated) well into the night. Last bullet point... Privacy. Brenda, the owner, lives right down the road, but I didn't see her until I called before leaving. We spent a night or two up til 1-2 am playing music, drinking beer, and playing corn hole; not once was this an issue. Brenda appeared to appreciate the privacy as much as we did, she does live nearby after all. She was pleasant to talk to and informed us that we had probably gone overboard on cleaning. Her only request was to remove the trash. My one and only concern was that tap water could get far too hot. I informed Brenda, and she appeared unaware yet investigative about the situation which I appreciated. Over all, I had an amazing time near the gorge and Chestnut was the perfect sanctuary for me and my fellow adventurers. I plan on bringing family during autumn or winter. The area is beautiful and the house makes for a perfect wv woodland vacation spot. There are trails I still want to walk on the property and they would be gorgeous during fall and winter. Its a special place. Highly recommended."

  • Quiet and relaxing

"We enjoyed the cabin for an anniversary getaway, as did our cats. The interior has been redone some since we visited last year (we miss the Welsh dresser) and seems more open. It's a great out of the way but not too out of the way place near the Gorge, with great stars in the sky and wildlife on the property. The jarring gravel road that you travel on for the last bit needs some work, though - it hasn't improved in the last year!"
