  • Beautiful views of the mountains!

"The cabin had all the basics for a nice little getaway. We did get extended cell service so we weren't totally blacked out from the outside world. I wish it had been warmer so we could have sat out on the deck but we settled for enjoying the view from inside! We were really happy to find a place we could bring our dogs along, they had a blast romping in the big field by the stream!"

  • Great weekend getaway

"We loved our stay at the farmhouse. It was the perfect distance from DC for a weekend getaway, the right size for 2 (but would have been great for 4), and nicely equipped for a weekend of cooking and relaxing. I would definitely come back again for another visit to Lost River in the future. Highly recommend!"

  • Nice weekend getawy

"Four of us had a great time at the cabin for the weekend! Kristen gave us clear driving directions, and it was an easy drive from DC on a Friday evening. The cabin is nestled in the GW national forest, though there are some neighbors along the same road so you're not completely isolated. It looks just as it does in the pictures, and it was clean and more than spacious enough for 4 people. It was definitely chilly (it snowed our second night!) and the only one problem we did run into was that it took us a while to figure out how to get the fireplace to work so that it wasn't filling the cabin with smoke every time we opened the fireplace door. Once we did get it to work (after contacting Kristen, who tried her best to help us via text) it kept the cabin very warm. I might recommend leaving written directions for how to work the fireplace - I think the key is getting it hot enough to create a draft going that will pull the smoke up the chimney. The kitchen is well equipt, and we had a nice time cooking a friends-giving meal. There's lots of hiking options nearby, and while we didn't get to explore the town much, we definitely would have liked to had we had the time. If you are coming in the fall or winter I'd recommend bringing an extra blanket or two (as Kristin told us!). Overall, we had a lovely time and it was an easy getaway from DC for the weekend!"
