  • A superb retreat!!!

"This was a great getaway for my family for a few days. It was warm and inviting and just what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle. The kitchen had all of the amenities we needed which was a plus. Additiinally, Angie was very responsive to any questions we had. Thank you!!!! It was a wonderful mini vacation."

  • A Great New Years Eve away from it all!!

"After a friend backed out of our trip to Nashville for NYE I found The Black Bear Chalet and could not have been more pleasantly surprised with the experience! We did not get into the cabin until late... We spent the day in Harper's Ferry and then having dinner with friends in near by Berkeley Springs... My friends who I told I was sending the weekend in a Cabin in the woods in Paw Paw all joked we were going to Avalon!! Once we arrived at The Black Bear Chalet we were able to open the cabin with ease and get warm!! There was plenty of firewood... After toasting in the New Year a few hours later we called it a night... Climbing in to bed the sheets and the bed were very comfortable! The shower the next morning was very warm... and plenty big enough for a cabin shower!! We went exploring the next day to Capcapon State Park and Capon Bridge for some lunch... and came back and The Black Bear Chalet just called us to have a NAP... and i NEVER NAP!!! To say that the cabin forces you to relax is beyond an understatement!! Thank you Mike and Ann for not only a great place to ring in the New Year, but also for the complete EASE in which I was able to book the property!! I cant wait to come back again!!"

  • Taste of History

"The home is lovely and so tastefully decorated, you can sense the history of the home and property. We loved visiting the pond and it was great to have a mowed path. We enjoyed coffee on the porch daily while the dogs sat with us and the kids played in the yard. We had our own little Thanksgiving and found the kitchen and dining perfect for a feast of 4! The home is close to the main-town-area of Berkeley Springs which we enjoy visiting to walk for the day or an evening meal. The movies, books, and games provided were the perfect entertainment while we were in the cabin....the "chess corner" was perfect. It was so nice to have linens and towels provided and to have a washer/dryer. The home/cabin is perfect as long as the adults and children are comfortable navigating the (steeper) stairs that are in so many of these historical homes, we had no problem at all and consider it a neat feature. Sally responded to emails throughout our stay when we had little questions, she was gracious and kind."

  • Restore, Recharge, and Repair

"I remember the day that Jan charged me with the task of finding a perfect getaway. It had to be peaceful, away from TV and the like, convenient, affordable, comfortable, and dog friendly. Where was I ever going to find such a place? I searched for days and days on the Internet, and finally stumbled on Green Valley. We booked three nights the first time. When we were driving down the lane toward the cottages for the first time, Jan was ecstatic. It exceeded what she was looking for! Pepper, the black lab, loved the lake. Sara, the beagle mix, simply loved being there. Our new rescue, Tinker the yorkie, was a bit afraid at first, since he had been dumped in the woods. But he came to love this place as well. All the things you read about in the other reviews are absolutely true, and then some. All you need to bring is your food, your clothes, and your personal toiletries. The accommodations are wonderful, the beds are comfy, and the peace is unbelievable. We are up to a week at a time now, and thinking about more. One last point -- everyone we have met there, usually out walking their dogs as well, has been to Green Valley multiple times. Once you find this place, you never let it get away."
