  • Cozy and comfortable

"This home was a wonderful place in which to spend a long weekend. The location was convenient to Timberline and Canaan Valley ski resorts, but also very private within the community. There was no snow on the ground when we were there, but you would definitely need an all-weather vehicle if there was - the roads to get back to the house are steep and curvy. The house looked welcoming when we arrived. Although some of the furniture was a bit shabby, everything was very clean and we felt comfortable from the start, especially since we were traveling with somewhat messy teens. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner - plenty of dishes, mugs, pots and pans, kitchen tools, etc. We loved the arrangement of the house - the kids had their space downstairs and we had ours on the main level. When it was time to pack up and go home, there was clear and detailed information on what to do to close up the house, which we appreciated. We didn't have any issues during our stay so we never had to contact the owner, but she was very responsive before our trip while we were making our plans. We will definitely consider this home again should we return to the area."

  • Good place for ski vacation

"Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We have been renting this house for several times during the last 10 years. I like the pool and ping-pong in the garage/rackroom.This was the first time when the hot tub was broken(no notice about that). However, it was fixed promptly after reported to the office. The pots and frying pans were burned and not usable until we cleaned them. Two sofas with Pullout Bed on the main level were not in working condition. So, the place is not for 12 people as it listed and was before. Otherwise, it's good."

  • Basecamp for Adventure

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Booked the Bears Den for a Winter ski trip the last weekend of February for 10 guest however unseasonably warm weather caused for unfavorable ski conditions so our guest declined the 7hr drive to Canaan Valley unfortunately. My wife and I and our son still decided to go and enjoy the area and had a fantastic time. The weather was indeed warm at 71 degrees on Friday. We hiked the Table Rock trail and then drove to Thomas WV and biked the Blackwater Canyon Trail and ate dinner at Tip Top Coffee house in Thomas where they grill burgers on Friday evenings ONLY. After a full day of adventure we settled back into the Bears Den. The house has abundant space for our family of three and would also give larger families plenty of room as well. This house has a large dinning room and the basement provides a secondary living space/room, bedroom and bathroom. During winter weather this house would definitely require a 4X4 vehicle however once at the Bears Den there is a very nice flat area to park several vehicles! I would definitly recommend a friend or relative and will likely book this house again! Would also recommend coffee at Tiptops in Thomas,WV drinks at Stumphouse Ales and a burrito at Hellbender. Also checkout Blackwater Bikes where you can rent Fat Tire bikes to ride in the snow and XC bikes in dry weather."
