"This was our second visit and like the first, we were thrilled. Despite new ownership, the cottage remained unchanged, which is what we had hoped for. I would be fibbing if I said this was everyone's cup of tea - it's very rustic, a little ramshackle in nature, and just the kind of crooked little place that we love. Tall people or families requiring more than one bathroom would struggle. We don't. Everything about it is charming, from the large stone fireplace, the original kitchen sink, the bbq pit out back (which we used to cook a hearty beef stew in a dutch oven all day Sunday), the porch which overlooks the spacious front yard and of course - the stream, the babbling, noisy, beautiful stream! We did the same things we did last time.... we rode into Paint Bank for a Buffalo Burger, walked around the Fish Hatchery, drove to Covington to hike the Jackson River Scenic Trail, and then came back to a glass of wine by the outdoor fire, and then by the indoor fire! (it was chilly!). I really couldn't find anything negative to say, except for maybe we could have used some better firewood, but then that's as much our job as anyone else's and we were the last guests for the season, so undoubtedly were using old wood. It wasn't a big deal, we brought some of our own, and truly, most places don't offer it, so I cannot really complain. I just know how much we burn, and it is probably an unusually large amount, compared to most! We LIVE by the fireside. The appliances are new and modern for an old house. Full size refrigerator, brand new coffeemaker, nice pots and pans.... everything you need to cook. We cook a lot.... so these things are important to us. The bathroom is old and quaint, with a shower over the claw-foot tub, but the water is hot, with good pressure, so no complaints there, especially with new fluffy white bath towels to use! Upstairs bedroom that we used was very comfortable. Last year we slept with the door/window open, this year we didn't. When it's warm enough to be open, the stream will lull you into a perfect sleep! The bedding is all new, warm. Most importantly, the cottage is spotless. Everything is kept beautifully by Deb (owner) and Libby (Housekeeper, nearby) and it's so reassuring to know we can walk into an immaculate "home" for a few days. We cannot wait until next October, and we miss the stream, the farm-house, the beautiful surroundings, already. Again, a perfect stay. Thank you."
