  • Family Vacation

"We, along with another family rented this house for a week in late July. As stated by other reviews the house is lovely and has almost every amenity you can think of. We even made ice cream two nights which was wonderful. We made full use of the fire pit almost every night. The shower in the Master Bathroom is lovely, but we ended up using other showers most of the time since the shower doors don't fit tightly and caused a flood in the bathroom each time. We rented the pontoon for the week also and visited many of the restaurants on the lake. The only disappointment with the boat is there is no ladder. If you have someone who has any physical disability (I have severe rheumatoid arthritis), it's very difficult to get into the boat from anywhere other than a dock. The owner of the property responded immediately to any of our questions and concerns. We had our dog with us and the lower floor was a perfect place for him. We would highly recommend this property to any of our friends."

  • A nice cabin- wish it were closer to trails or lake

"This cabin easily accommodated our two families with 5 bedrooms. The living space is large with a large/dated kitchen that had the essentials. With our 7 kids, we especially appreciated the almost soundproof screened porch where we could send them. The property is relatively secluded except for a nearby neighbor who plays music on a loudspeaker and whose large Doberman visited us. The trails on this property are limited but you can walk a few hundred feet down a path to pick up some of the logs lying on the ground. We did enjoy the fire pit and the kids ran laps around the cabin. Some of the adults took walks on the local country roads and there were no problems. This property is on the East side of Castle Rock Lake and there are some relatively easy accesses to the beaches. We went to the beach near Carlsons which was fine. The beach at the County Park on the East side is $5 per car and has the added benefit of a playground and restrooms. The water throughout the lake was very green with significant algae. We did rent a pontoon boat for a half day and the water was better out in the lake. The price of this rental is not insignificant but is a little cheaper than something closer to water. If you want to have a quiet indoor base and travel from here to the nearby lakes, it is a pretty good deal. There were no problems with the financial arrangements and despite the many warnings on the owners site about what they were. It responsible for, we found the cabin enough-equipped and did get our deposit back after cleaning on our departure day. We probably wouldn't return to this place mainly because there isn't a lot to do in the immediate area but we were glad to share this space with our friends for these days."

  • Hooks and Sticks Family Cabin

"We miss it already. The quiet. I like the dvd and radio only. It adds to the experience. The deer coming up to the back of the house. Perfect for my wife and myself. We also like the area for different activities. Necedah and Tomah great places to visit. Woodbine and Carlson's Rustic Ridge worthwhile supper clubs. We'll come back to visit areas we missed on our short trip. Don and Marge Oak Forest Il."
