"My wife and I, both in our mid-60s, needed a get-away from our everyday life that wouldn't cost too much in terms of time or money, but that would be a relaxing counter-point to our busy lives. This property met our needs.
The home was fine. Nice kitchen, good family room, very good view of the lake. The bedroom on the first floor was a bit dark, but we choose it because of the bed size and for convenience sake. When we arrived, we looked at the upstairs bedroom, which were nicely decorated and probably would have been good for children or grandchildren. There is a screen porch, but it was too cold (frost warnings) for us to use it. There were ample cooking items, as advertised, to allow us to make our own meals. We both enjoy cooking, so that's what we did. There were supper clubs in the area, but they we didn't choose to try them. The property itself was OK, with the highlight being the view of the lake, which was great.
Our host responded to my inquiries very quickly, and allowed us to come about 45 minutes prior to the normal check-in time, which was very nice of him. It took us 3 1/2 hours from the northwest Chicago suburbs, and it was really an easy drive. Using our GPS, we found food markets easily within 15 or 20 minutes of the chalet. The neighborhood was fairly deserted this time of year, so it was a quiet and relaxing stay. I read almost four books in 5 days! I did a little fishing (caught a nice large-mouth bass), but I was a little disappointed to learn that the dock had already been brought in to shore. We did a little walking and driving sight seeing, and saw that the area was a mix of new homes and older ones.
I could see how, with the dock and other amenities, this would be an excellent vacation location in the summer for water-friendly families.
All and all, for a very quiet fall getaway, I would recommend this property."
