  • Great Boating, Wonderful Frontage, Relaxing and Cute

"We stayed a week at the Homestead in early July, and the pictures don't do justice to the charm and character of the place - as well as the magnificent water views of Watersmeet Lake. You'll want to rent this cabin if - 1. You want to be on a beautiful body of water, and you love a chain of lakes to explore. We spent a lot of time exploring the chain. 2. You want a place that has some historical personality and Northwoods charm. 3. You love a campfire while you watch night descend over the lake. 4. You like privacy and lots of frontage. The pictures don't accurately depict how great the frontage is. Plus, it is really private, and we saw tons of wildlife - otter, deer, eagles, and of course, loons. 5. You love a good Wisconsin supper club. We boated to many, and the Honey Bear is a five minute boat ride. 6. You value clean, and very comfortable, and you like character and a vintage vibe. 7. You want a cabin that is way off the main road, but about 7 minutes to town. 8. You like a nice flat lawn and minimal steps to the dock. The only thing this cabin is missing is a washer and dryer, but there is a large clothesline outside and it never proved to be an issue. The Homestead is the kind of place that you really sort of hope nobody else ever finds out about, but since I regularly utilize VRBO and appreciate reviews, I felt obligated to share our wonderful experience."

  • Amazing lake views!

"My husband and I, along with another couple, had a great trip at Whispers of the Wilderness. The more-than-180 degree views of the lake from the open living room/dining room were wonderful - something that the winter landscape provides with the bare trees. It was very private - you can't see either of the other two cabins from the house. We were able to ski all around the lake and the adjacent smaller lake - a little slippery as the wind had blown the snow leaving some bare ice. We saw 2 fox walking across the lake and the tracks of something a little larger - maybe a coyote - on the lake. We also enjoyed x-c skiing at Winter Park and an afternoon of snow shoeing at Fallison Lake about 1/2 hour north. The house was spotless and the beds comfy. The kitchen had all that we needed to make some good meals. Of note, although we didn't have any problems getting up the driveway with a 4-wheel drive car, I think it might be a little tough without it at times during the winter months - something to consider for winter rentals. At the house there was plenty of room to easily turn the car around in the well-plowed driveway. Thanks, Claire, for the lovely long weekend."
