  • Good stay better communication would have been appreciated

"I had a great stay. The cabin is beautiful and relaxing. There was a big lack of communication from the owner which caused me a little stress.I wasn't given any check in or check out instructions and there was nothing listed in the cabin. The owner claimed that I was supposed to do a final walk through with her before leaving but never communicated that with me. She also didn't leave any payment information instructions.I assumed I was supposed to pay through VRBO, but she wanted me to leave a check. I even got a phone call from the police because she didn't find a payment in the cabin.I understand that she was concerned that she didn't get paid, however, she should have communicated better in the first place and this situation would have been avoided and the police would not have to have been involved. I would recommend staying here but you may have to take the lead in communication and contact the owner multiple times before receiving a response. We would definitely stay again, we just would have appreciated better communication and clearer instructions."

  • wonderful stay at LaBri

"We had a fabulous one week stay at LaBri and the week is one we will always remember. Rick and Nancy were wonderful with checking in on our stay and everything was very organized and easy to find. We travelled as a family of 4 with 2 small children - ages 1.5 and 5. The highchair and jogging stroller were very convenient and we loved having all of the space. We took advantage of everything LaBri had to offer - meals on the gorgeous screened in porch overlooking the lake, played games in the gazebo on the water, rented the pontoon boat for the day, had fun rowboat rides every day, explored the woods, photographed beautiful sunrises, sunsets, bald eagles, birds, river otters, chipmunks, and more, had smores in the fire pit every evening, saw a lumberjack show, fished, swam, took nature walks, napped on the hammock, so much to list!! It was a week we will always remember and we loved every minute. The lake is so peaceful and quiet - it was just magical to catch the sunrises. The house is very private and I think we saw maybe 3 fishing boats tops a day. The river otters would come out in the afternoon and turtles swam around my fishing lures. I cannot say enough how great the fishing is for a small child. My son is 5 and he would catch a smaller perch or bluegill within 30 seconds of casting. He was so excited to fish and it was great that the water was clear enough to even see the fish get the worm from the dock!! We saw a fun lumberjack show in Woodruff which was fun for the kids. The bedrooms are gorgeous and there is so much space. It was great having a washer and dryer. We did fish with a guide Jeff Winters for a half day and I was excited to catch a pike and Ryan a bluegill. The weather was fabulous and we couldn't have asked for a better vacation. Great memories for sure! We will be back!! Thank you so much to Rick and Helen for sharing your beautiful home with us!!"

  • Great Hideaway on a private lake

"We booked this cabin for a week in early August with our kids and our dogs and had a blast. Highs: the cabin is spacious, well-stocked, and beautiful for a 'cabin'. There are some basic staples in the kitchen and it is pretty easy to cook your meals there. The canoe and kayaks are serviceable. The lake is quite private--we had one other person there for a day, but otherwise we had the whole place to ourselves. The lake is full of iron so has low visibility, but was great for swimming. We had some beautiful sunsets on the lake, just us. The drive to Manatowish Waters or Boulder Junction is not long, so we had an easy time getting out for biking. The hosts were pleasant and accommodating, bringing us a new trolling motor for the boat, and providing a great binder explaining the solar system and the surrounding area. Our dogs had a great time--the lot is private enough that they were able to be themselves! Small issues of wear with a screen door and the boat motor were, to me, expected for a private residence and did not impact my stay. Lows: the lake is surrounded by wetlands, so bugs were an issue. Although this is to be expected in the north woods in August, I would definitely recommend a healthy dose of repellent. Cell phone coverage is spotty, and forget about wi-fi (we have US Cellular). The beds for up to 4 guests are great, but the pull-out sofa is a bit worn. The linens were very clean, but a full-grown adult might not be as comfortable. The lake access is close and there are steps, but the actual bank is a bit steep; anyone with restricted mobility will have trouble. Again, none of these issues interfered with our stay. Recommendations: the lake is quiet for the most part, so it's a great lake for kids, stand-up paddle-boarding, and kayaking (keeping in mind there isn't a sandy beach). We like biking, and the Vilas County trail in Manatowish Waters is really awesome. Park at the community center and you can go up to 40 miles on paved trails that are very scenic. Aqualand Ale House in Boulder Junction provides a nice respite with wi-fi and a trendy menu. Bayfield and the Apostle islands are about 90 min or so away if you're interested in a day trip--a bit far but do-able."

  • So much fun

"This property was everything it claimed to be. So well taken care of and so much to do right there. We used the kayaks to paddle around the lake. We fished from the pier and had a couple of fun nights grilling and then roasting marsh mellows around the campfire. The sky was so clear we had a wonderful view of the milky way and saw shooting stars and satellites. There were otters, bald eagles and deer right on the property. The lodging was very well maintained and had everything and more than we needed. We primarily came up to mountain bike and hike. There were many trails close by that were beautiful and very accessible. We'll be back. Very happy renters!"
