  • Peaceful abode

"We so enjoyed our stay! Mt. Horeb is the perfect small town and Madison is a quick drive for big city entertainment. This home is so inviting and comfortable, we didn't want to leave. Perfect get-away for adults, we will visit again."

  • Beautiful cabin in the woods with modern amenities.

"This house is in a secluded heavily wooded area of Cross Plains. It makes for a very private and intimate setting. It is very peaceful and rustic where you feel immersed in nature. The house itself looks to be the core of an old cabin with a lot of additions and upgrades. All of the 3 ½ bathrooms were very modern and seemed to be recently renovated. The kitchen has an open layout which makes it great for preparing meals. There is a large dining room that is mostly windows and offers ample seating for large families and parties ideal for meals and board games. The TV doesn’t have cable but it does have a Roku and we were able to connect to Netflix and watch a couple shows and movies. The beds and bedrooms were very comfortable. They also have a surprisingly good movie selection. We watched Labyrinth (David Bowie!). There are 3 bedrooms downstairs and a 4th that is a loft above the 1st floor. The driveway did give us some trouble as we stayed right after a heavy snow fall. My 4x4 Subaru Forester handled it fine but a couple of the sedans had difficulty getting in and out. The driveway was semi plowed when we arrived and we asked Jason if he could send the plow back to clean it up since the smaller cars were really struggling. He sent someone to work on it and got it in much better shape. It shouldn’t be a problem most of the time, we were just right on the tail end of a heavy snowfall. But Jason did a great job making sure it got taken care of. We never went to downtown Madison but I would guess it would be right around a 30 minute drive. We went to Middleton every day and that was about 18 minutes. Overall we had a great time and really enjoyed this property! Plus Jason was very accessible and made sure we were taken care of. I highly recommend staying here!"

  • Comfortable,clean, quiet chalet

"Great stay in this comfortable, clean, well-maintained, and well-equipped house. We needed a country escape from Chicago and this was perfect. We rented bikes at Chamber of Commerce in New Glarus and rode the lovely Sugar River Trail--uncrowded, beautiful and very flat. We hope to return in the spring. Loved retro M and M cafe for breakfast in Monticello and Sugar River Pizza in New Glarus for dinner."

  • Quiet, stars everywhere

"Great place. Very new. Nice kitchen. LOVELY fireplace. Super nice owners. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because there are a few things I think could be better (based on other VRBO and HomeAway rentals I've stayed in): 1. The kitchen is mismatched. That's fine! But having just one wine glass when you advertise that a place sleeps 5 is not. I expect there to be enough of the basics (plates, silverware, glasses, etc) to accommodate all potential guests. There's a note that you can ask for extra linens if you need them, but, if 5 were staying (as we originally thought we'd be there with friends), I would expect a minimum of maybe 8 towels, not 4. 2. The master bed is a double and makes a lot of noise! My husband has LITERALLY slept through tornado warnings & even he commented on the amount of noise the bed makes. (We switched to the second bedroom, which has a queen, our 2nd night.) 2a. I found it odd that the bigger bed wasn't in the master suite, especially since the room could accommodate a king, but that's not a problem, just a surprise. 3. There were more than a few things that needed fixing. As in the shower door handle fell off & dishwasher didn't work. I get that it's winter and probably not prime time for renters in Wisconsin! (And the notes around the house about how things worked made total sense to me.) And, for two people that's not a problem, but, if we were 5, especially since it seems otherwise fairly new, stuff like that would have been a problem. These problems seem easily fixed (by a run to Target or Lowe's and some wood glue) and, if they were, I would totally give the place 5 stars!"
