  • A beautiful property in the Driftless

"This was a fantastic place for myself, my wife, and three friends to spend a long holiday weekend. It had everything we wanted in a vacation rental, and more. We used a rental place in Ontario to go tubing on the Kickapoo River, hiked at Wildcat Mountain State Park and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, went to a fair in Hillsboro, and relaxed the rest of the time. Sitting on the deck drinking coffee and enjoying the view was a highlight of each morning. Dave was very helpful with all his information and recommendations for things to do, and he's easy to reach via phone call or text. Book now--you won't regret it, and you won't want to leave."

  • Easily In Our 'Top 5' of Cabin Experiences

"We have stayed in a fair number of cabins throughout WI via VRBO and this cabin is easily in our top 5. Probably top 2! It was clean and warm & inviting. All of the reviews are true and accurate. Here are a few things I didn't read about: I adored the infrared electric fireplace. If you are allergic to the lingering burned wood smell of working wood fireplaces as I am, this is the cabin for you. Many cabins are "out" for me b/c I am allergic to wood smoke, especially if it is saturated in the furniture and bedding. The Honey Barn's furniture, throw blankets, linens and bedding were exceptionally clean. This cabin is a great place to stay in the winter. You won't feel 'closed in' by the snow. The cabin layout is open and airy with ample windows allowing the generous warmth of sunshine to pour in. Rick had the driveway cleared for us, and all the roads around the property were clear for traveling to Westby, Viroqua, etc. We brought our two dogs who aren't super-fond of other dogs. We chose the Honey Cabin as there aren't neighbors within a close proximity. We didn't let our dogs roam off leash b/c we aren't familiar with their habits, but I can see where this place would be heaven for pet owners who are comfortable with doing this. This is a great location for attending the two-day annual Snowflake Ski Jumping Tournament. We drove by the event to check it out and watched two jumpers. Wow!! Our 9 & 13 yr old daughters enjoyed having the loft entirely to themselves, as well as shopping at Rick's Rock Shop and Main Street Station in Viroqua. The youngest ran up & down the driveway with the dogs and played & sledded in the snow. The oldest enjoyed the furniture in the loft and the comfy living room couch to curl up & read. We all enjoyed playing games at the dinner table and movies on the large flat screen tv. If you have a toddler, the stairs leading to the loft can easily be blocked with a gate. If you are mobility impaired, there is one step up from the driveway to the deck and everything else is one level (save the loft). The close proximity to Madison is the perfect drive time for getting away. We look forward to returning in the Summer and Fall to enjoy the fire pit and all the other amenities these seasons will bring. Thank you for building and sharing this wonderful property!"

  • Cozy cabin insulated from the world on wooded 40 acres. Perfect getaway for rest and rejuvenation.

"We stayed for 6 nights over spring break. We didn't see another soul other than when we wanted to. Our dogs accompanied us and loved roaming the peaceful 40 acre retreat. Wildlife abound. We could hear the lowing of the cows on the dairy nearby, and the occasional trot of horses from an Amish cart going down the road, but otherwise was nothing but the wind in the trees, and the birds in the sky. We even saw a bald eagle. We've stayed in cabins all over the state and this was our favorite. The owners are lucky to have this place, and we are lucky that they share it with us."
