  • For the most part, a lovely stay

"Our family of five took the trip of a lifetime to Ireland in May, 2016. We are a quiet family of two adults and three college-aged children. We enjoyed the rural location of this home. We were minutes away from the Cliffs of Moher and the town of Doolin. It was a short drive to the Burren where we enjoyed walks through the rocky landscape. We took a day trip to Galway which was a 90 minute drive. We also took a day trip to the Connemara Mountains and Kylemore Abbey which was so worth the 3 hour drive!! The home was spacious, clean and private. Nancy met us at the house when we arrived and showed us around. The beds were comfortable and the showers had fabulous water pressure and plenty of hot water. The views of the ocean and Doonagore castle were awesome from the front windows. The kitchen was well-equipped. The only problem we had with the home was the heat. It was chilly during our ten-day stay. When we arrived, the heat wasn't even on and the house was quite cold. The first level is heated with underfloor heating and the second level by hot water radiators. Nancy turned the heat on and told us it would take "20 minutes" to heat up. After several hours and no improvement, we called Thessa, the property manager. Thessa stated it would take "several hours" to heat up. Well, it was so cold the first night that my son went to bed with his coat on. It literally took about 4 or 5 days until the lower level warmed up somewhat. The upstairs hot water radiators did a good job within a few days, but the downstairs remained chilly for most our our stay. My husband spoke to Thessa several times about the heat. It didn't help that the heat was on a timer - The downstairs never had a chance to heat up. We did eventually feel the heat in the floor in the back downstairs bedroom. We never did feel any heat in the floor in the front bedroom, the dining room, the living room, or the kitchen. We suggested to Thessa that maybe the heating should be checked in those particular rooms. The kids did not even use the downstairs front bedroom because it was too cold. Instead they shared rooms upstairs. Thessa ultimately instructed us to bypass the automatic timer and keep the heat on as needed. When we returned to the states, the owner told us she was "disappointed that we used the heat so much!!" Other than the heat issue, we enjoyed the house and our stay in Ireland."

  • Great location

"We stayed in the Spanish Banks suite for a week with our two children, ages 12 and 14. It was great for each of them to have their own bedroom space. The apartment is on the basement level of a large multi-suite home in a perfect location in Kitsilano - a two minute walk to the beach, parks, running trails, shopping and numerous food options. Hard to beat. If noise above your head bothers you, you might want to bring a noise machine of some sort - it didn't really bother us. Kitchen is large and fully functional. Large screen TV with cable, although we never used it. The outdoor patio was nice to use during our visit (an unusually warm and sunny stretch for April). Everyone we met was pleasant, and it was great having a washing machine and dryer available ($1.00 each). They provided us with recommendations for restaurants and where to find basics we might need. Shampoo/conditioner/soap, etc was provided, and they also left a lovely welcome basket with food items. I could see this apartment being a little dreary if you had a rainy week and/or unmotivated travelers, but we had neither and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our favorite sushi restaurant was Hitoe Sushi on 4th just past Blenheim - went twice we liked it so much. Also liked Thai Food by Montri on Broadway. Enjoy!"

  • Beautiful, serene home...great for family vacation

"We stayed here over Thanksgiving for 5 nights (and lucked out with the most amazing weather we could've hoped for). We had 7 people--5 adults and 2 kids. We all loved the home. The kitchen (very important for Thanksgiving) was fantastic. It had everything we needed to cook a Thanksgiving meal. It was also large and modern. The large dining table had more than enough seating for all of us. The bathrooms were nice and clean. The decks were awesome--spacious and with great views--we got up nearly every morning to watch the sunrise. The yard was nice and large and flat (although, it would have been nice if the lawn had been mowed...the kids wanted to play soccer but the grass was super long). The dock was spectacular and the view from the end of the dock (particularly in the mornings and evenings) was stunning. The house comes with crab traps and a canoe (be sure to ask for them to be made available prior to arriving). We asked that the canoe be available. However, one small complaint was that although the canoe was there for us to use, they left the oars locked in the garage (the property manager--who is super responsive--came and got them out for us) and there were no life vests. We couldn't take the kids out on the canoe because we didn't have life vests. Sort of a bummer. Lastly, it was an inconvenience that the house does not come with linens and towels (unless you want to pay $200 extra). We flew in from various parts of the country, and bringing sheet sets and towels was sort of annoying. For this type of rental property, I firmly believe linens and towels should be part of the rental. However, it obviously didn't stop us for booking this house, and I'm very glad it didn't. Overall, however, our stay here was amazing. One of the best trips we've taken together. We all enthusiastically agreed that we would absolutely return to Chincoteague and to this house again!"
