Looking for something out of the ordinary? People stop to take photographs of this house and marvel at its different and interesting architecture. All concrete and glass, with long beautiful lines that outline the 3-story contemporary property. The builders definitely thought “outside the box” when they designed this home in Kehena, about 30 miles south of Hilo.
The sun shines often in Kehena, making the black sand beach a popular place even though the surf can be rough. The views from Kehena Point will amaze you; there is not a room in the house that doesn’t have a view along the seawall to the north, south or directly out to the ocean. Sunrises are magical and beckon you to wake up early.
The interior of the house is part ship, part whimsy, and always interesting. You enter on the middle floor, which has a sitting area, small dining table, and galley kitchen with large round windows on three sides. Outside the front door is a large lanai with a nice outdoor teak table. A circular staircase takes you up to the master bedroom and bath with another outdoor lanai, or down to the second bedroom and private bath. Both bedrooms have queen beds.
Tasteful furnishings and creative touches are evident at every turn. The owners have created a beautiful and functional environment in this unique floor plan. There is a barbecue and washer/dryer for use by guests as well as a TV and DVD/CD on every floor.
For people with an adventurous spirit (and who don’t mind the stairs), Kehena Point will be a stay you will remember long after your holiday is over. Dramatic waves crashing against the cliffs provide a view that constantly changes. As an extra bonus, you can start your morning with a beautiful sunrise on the horizon. Not a traditional Hawaiian home, but still paradise! |
