Location: Estes Park, Front Range, Colorado, USA (Estes Park, CO (1 1/2 hours NW of Denver))
Accommodations: Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2.5 Baths (Sleeps 2-8)
Whispering Pines cabin, a stately rental vacation retreat only 3 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park (and right across the road from the Big Thompson river), was built with charm, integrity and beautiful craftsmanship which has been maintained throughout the years. Here you will find Old Estes charm, updated with today's amenities (including wireless internet)in one of the nicest cabin rentals in Estes Park. Nestled among aspen and ponderosa pine trees, some of which are hundreds of years old, this is an heirloom historic 1928 property with a horse corral and shed. A wonderful place for that family reunion.
The 1 1/2 acres with mountain views and rock outcroppings contribute to the sense of solitude. This home is filled with tasteful and comfortable furnishings, and the town of Estes Park is only a 1/2 mile walk away. Here is the perfect place to come and escape the summer heat (daytime temperatures are generally in the 70's to mid 80's and evenings get into the 40's and 50's) as well as enjoy the serenity of the mountains year round, and a wonderful place for people who appreciate the grace of years past.
The green bedroom has a queen bed (and a 3/4 bath with claw foot tub plus heated tile floor), the yellow bedroom has a full size bed, and the all-season back sleeping porch has a queen and a twin. Recently restored, the original maid's quarters with a separate entrance now sleeps two, with a half bath, also with heated tile floor. There are also 2 sleeper sofas and a sleeping porch.
You'll love, as we do, to enjoy the front screened porch-- the perfect place to play cards, sleep, read, sip a cup of your favorite beverage, visit with friends or family, or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big Thompson River. There are plenty of windows to take in the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, including the deer and elk that often wander through (and even the occasional bear). The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is just 5 minutes away, with many, many trails to hike, snowshoe or even for backcountry skiing. The Eldora downhill ski area is a 45 minute drive away.
We provide a collection of 60+ DVD's, games, and books, including mountain interest and local information. We also have extras to make your vacation comfortable and safe-- first aid kit, flash light, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detector, cooler, coffee, sugar, snowshoes upon request, etc. A well-behaved dog is welcome for an additional fee.
Much effort has been taken to care for and furnish our mountain cabin and we want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable, and to enjoy it as much as we do. We are proud to provide a clean and smoke-free environment.(Smoking is allowed outside). This has been a family home for 80 years and has only been made available for rentals in the past two years.
This Estes Park cabin has it all--lots of character, a large wooded lot providing privacy without isolation, across the road from the river with no buildings in-between to spoil the view or muffle the sound, walking distance from downtown, a huge stone wood-burning fireplace, mountain views, high-speed wireless internet and plenty of room inside and out to spread out and relax. You couldn't ask for more in Estes Park lodging--a perfect vacation or holiday getaway. Truly stunning, this place has a sense of history and stands out from the crowd; a place you won't forget!

Beautiful Wildlife in Your Own Front Yard
VRBO Bear stayed here - 09/25/2009 The “Whispering Pines Cabin in the Woods” was truly a perfect retreat for a family reunion. Sue, the owner, was a delight to work with- from the first time we spoke to her to after we returned home. The location offers the best of both worlds. It offers solitude, but is close to Estes Park’s wonderful shops, restaurants and “Fun City." During our stay we visited the art fair and walked through the town, taking in all the little shops to get souvenirs.
The moment we arrived, we realized the cabin was bigger than it looked in the photos. After walking in the front door, there’s a large combination dining area/living room, with a huge stone fireplace and hearth. The living room features a flat screen television VHS/DVD player with an assortment of videos and DVDs. Readers enjoyed browsing a nice collection of books. The Wi-Fi connection was great and we used it to research local activities and restaurants. The dining room had a large table that comfortably sat everyone in our group (ten people) for meals and board game evenings. There was a gas fireplace that keeps the place warm and toasty. The cabin’s craftsman style décor and lodge furnishings made the interior feel very cozy and quaint. The kitchen included all the dishes and utensils one needed for cooking and cleaning up. There was even a washer and dryer, which made it convenient for doing a load of our dirty clothes.
The cabin had lots of room to spread out. The bedrooms were comfortable with rustic décor. There was another bedroom called the “Maid’s Room.” It boasted a futon, half bath, and TV/DVD player. The cubs enjoyed watching their shows and videos in the Maid’s Room. However, the claw foot bathtub was a favorite for all. The claw foot bathtub bathroom served three bedrooms. There was another bathroom with tub and shower off the kitchen. There were plenty of towels, soaps, lotions, hair dryers and toiletries for everyone in our group.
We all loved the glassed-in front porch for reading and drinking a cup of coffee. One morning, we had the pleasure of watching a huge bull elk scraping his antlers on a tree in the front yard. The front porch was a great place for relaxing and watching the cubs playing on the swing in the front yard or having fun with a game of horseshoes. Our group enjoyed many games together in the front yard and will treasure the memories. It was a weekend we will always cherish and hope to return to again and again. During our visit, we celebrated two birthdays and we couldn’t have imagined a better place to pass the good times. You will love this cozy and warm “Cabin in the Woods.” I know this Bear had a wonderful time!

"Peaceful" We spent a week in your lovely cabin in August. We loved being so close to RMNP and took a few day trips into the park to take pictures of wildlife. We also enjoyed the proximity of the cabin to town, made quick trips to the store very easy. We weren't fortunate enough to get a glimpse of the bear that your previous guests commented on, but did see fresh tracks several mornings, so he was there, just hiding! A special thanks for having such a stocked kitchen - we had many memorable meals during our stay.

We stayed in the cabin for 3 nights with both of our sons and their families. We had a great time and especially liked the front porch. The 3 grandchildren had a great time playing out there. My husband and sons also enjoyed playing horseshoes. The cabin was very comfortable and secluded. We would definitely come again.
