Step back in time to a bygone era when vacations were actually relaxing. Whispering Pines cabin, a charming vacation rental retreat only 2 miles from Rocky Mountain National Park (and right across the road from the Big Thompson river), was built with integrity and beautiful craftsmanship which has been maintained throughout the years. There aren't many of these left.
Here you will find Old Estes charm, updated with today's amenities in one of the nicest lodging rentals in the quaint mountain town of Estes Park. While the cabin offers all the amenities of a modern comfortable home (including wireless internet), there has been a concerted effort in its restoration to retain the look and feel of this wonderful old property.
Nestled among aspen and ponderosa pine trees, some of which are hundreds of years old, this is an heirloom historic 1928 property with a horse corral and shed.
The 1 1/2 acres with mountain views and rock outcroppings contribute to the sense of solitude. This home is filled with tasteful and comfortable furnishings, and the town of Estes Park is only a 1/2 mile walk away.
Here is the perfect place to come and escape the summer heat (daytime temperatures are generally in the 70's to mid 80's and evenings get into the 40's and 50's) as well as enjoy the serenity of the mountains year round, and a wonderful place for people who appreciate vintage flair and the grace of years past.
The green bedroom has a queen bed (and a 3/4 bath with claw foot tub), the yellow bedroom has a full size bed, and the 3rd bedroom, with windows on three sides, has a queen and a twin. Recently restored, the orignal maid's quarters with a separate entrance now sleeps two(queen futon), with a half bath and heated tile floor.
You'll love, as we do, to enjoy the all season sunroom-- the perfect place to play cards, read, sip a cup of your favorite beverage, visit with friends or family, or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Big Thompson River. There are plenty of windows to take in the beauty and tranquility of the mountains, including the deer and elk that often wander through (and even the occasional bear).
The entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is just 5 minutes away, with many, many trails to hike, snowshoe or even for backcountry skiing. The Eldora downhill ski area is an hour drive away.
We provide a collection of close to 100 DVD's, games, and books, including mountain interest and local information. We also have extras to make your vacation comfortable and safe-- first aid kit, flash light, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detector, cooler, coffee, sugar, snowshoes upon request, etc. Well-behaved dogs are welcome for an additional fee.
Much effort has been taken to care for and furnish our mountain cabin and we want our guests to feel welcome and comfortable, and to enjoy it as much as we do. We are proud to provide a clean and smoke-free environment (smoking is allowed outside). This has been a family home for 80 years and has only been made available for rentals in the past four years.
This Estes Park cabin has it all--lots of character, a large wooded lot providing privacy without isolation, across the road from the river with no buildings in-between to spoil the view or muffle the sound, walking distance to downtown, a huge stone wood-burning fireplace, mountain views, high-speed wireless internet and plenty of room inside and out to spread out and relax. You couldn't ask for more in Estes Park lodging--a perfect vacation or holiday getaway. Truly stunning, this place has a sense of history and stands out from the crowd; a place you won't forget!

Beautiful Wildlife in Your Own Front Yard

The “Whispering Pines Cabin in the Woods” was truly a perfect retreat for a family reunion. Sue, the owner, was a delight to work with- from the first time we spoke to her to after we returned home. The location offers the best of both worlds. It offers solitude, but is close to Estes Park’s wonderful shops, restaurants and “Fun City." During our stay we visited the art fair and walked through the town, taking in all the little shops to get souvenirs.
The moment we arrived, we realized the cabin was bigger than it looked in the photos. After walking in the front door, there’s a large combination dining area/living room, with a huge stone fireplace and hearth. The living room features a flat screen television VHS/DVD player with an assortment of videos and DVDs. Readers enjoyed browsing a nice collection of books. The Wi-Fi connection was great and we used it to research local activities and restaurants. The dining room had a large table that comfortably sat everyone in our group (ten people) for meals and board game evenings. There was a gas fireplace that keeps the place warm and toasty. The cabin’s craftsman style décor and lodge furnishings made the interior feel very cozy and quaint. The kitchen included all the dishes and utensils one needed for cooking and cleaning up. There was even a washer and dryer, which made it convenient for doing a load of our dirty clothes.
The cabin had lots of room to spread out. The bedrooms were comfortable with rustic décor. There was another bedroom called the “Maid’s Room.” It boasted a futon, half bath, and TV/DVD player. The cubs enjoyed watching their shows and videos in the Maid’s Room. However, the claw foot bathtub was a favorite for all. The claw foot bathtub bathroom served three bedrooms. There was another bathroom with tub and shower off the kitchen. There were plenty of towels, soaps, lotions, hair dryers and toiletries for everyone in our group.
We all loved the glassed-in front porch for reading and drinking a cup of coffee. One morning, we had the pleasure of watching a huge bull elk scraping his antlers on a tree in the front yard. The front porch was a great place for relaxing and watching the cubs playing on the swing in the front yard or having fun with a game of horseshoes. Our group enjoyed many games together in the front yard and will treasure the memories. It was a weekend we will always cherish and hope to return to again and again. During our visit, we celebrated two birthdays and we couldn’t have imagined a better place to pass the good times. You will love this cozy and warm “Cabin in the Woods.” I know this Bear had a wonderful time!

This is a wonderful, classic, rustic, cabin within walking distance of downtown Estes Park. The cabin is comfortable and clean with a great fireplace. Staying here takes you back to a simpler time. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Walked to town one night and went skiing at Eldora the next day, just an hour away. Would definitely recommend it and hope to stay here again.

I just wanted to tell you how much we LOVED your cabin. It truly was the best time we have ever had as a family. The Christmas decorations were beautiful, the décor was beautiful, the cabin was beautiful, and so on, and so on, and so on!!! The cabin was immaculate when we arrived and we appreciate how you supplied ABSOLUTELY everything a person could possibly want or need. My girls and I had a great time scrapbooking on the front porch. Whispering Pines is a magical place and we hope to visit again soon!

I stayed here while taking an art class in town. This cabin is absolutely amazing...a step back in time, but with modern amenities. It is just as described. I saw a bear walking up the hill. Loved sleeping with the windows open and enjoying the breeze. I ate all my meals here and found the kitchen well equipped. I rate this a 5 star!

We enjoyed every minute, every nook and cranny, and even the whole of the grounds, where all three big men played horseshoes as the little one watched in delighted fascination, at a distance. We did use the gas grill one night. Otherwise, we cooked inside, making wonderful dinners for ourselves, all of us, men and women alike, sharing the kitchen work and enjoying each other's cooking. We sure made good use of the kitchen, as we did of the whole house, which never felt crowded, even with the 8 of us, age 2 to 73. And how comfortably we slept -- two couples in the official bedrooms, those with the two-year-old of course taking advantage of the sleeping porch. Another pair slept in the maid's quarters; despite his 6'2" they were very comfortable and glad to be out of the hubbub. And I slept just where I'd wanted to, in the sleeping porch off the living room, a window open to the scent of pine and the sounds of birds and insects. Otherwise, we weren't around much, since we hiked most of everyday. On Thursday, however, little Ian, Mama, and Gramma went to the farmer's market, to provision ourselves with the local fruits, vegetables, eggs, jelly, even frozen beef. Our whole week, the whole experience, just couldn't have been more glorious. Your lovely cabin was the perfect place to gather, sleep, and eat at the end of every day. Thank you very much for the care you and your staff have obviously given it. I'll certainly recommend it to anyone planning to head your way.

We loved our stay here. The cabin has the appearance of being perfectly preserved since the 30s, yet has such modern necessities as copious hot water, plenty of electrical outlets, dishwasher, etc. The owners have stocked the place with practically everything you could need, from towels to toiletries to bedding; the kitchen, while not big, is very well equipped as well. The bedrooms are small, as you would expect in an old house, but comfortable. My kids loved sleeping on the back porch and waking up to the view of the hillside every morning, and we loved the mountain view and the sound of the river from the enclosed front porch. We had 8 people (two families) and there was plenty of space (though one of the four bedrooms is accessed by a separate outside entrance, which might be challenging with very young children). Location is very convenient to both town and the park, though I would not quite call it walkable to town (I did it in 20 minutes, but would not try it with children along a busy road with no shoulder or sidewalk). I would definitely recommend the cabin; my kids were trying to extract a promise from me to stay here on our next vacation.

Our stay in your cabin was great! The cheery, roomy, well stocked kitchen was fun four our family "chefs". We so enjoyed the park and the pretty little town, but always looked forward to returning to the cozy cabin. The fireplace is beautiful and was a huge draw! The plentiful wildlife was a big bonus. Thanks for everything.

Fabulous home - warm and welcoming with lots of nice touches We stayed at the cabin in February 2011 with another couple. The pictures simply do not convey how warm and cozy the cabin is. We loved the huge table and played games every day there. The kitchen was so well stocked with everything we needed that we went shopping our first day and never ate a meal "out". The gas heaters kept the cabin nice and warm, but one night we did start a fire in the large fireplace - it was so romantic. Each morning we would read and drink coffee in the sun room and watch the sun light up the mountain vista. The heated tile floor in the bathroom was a nice touch on a cold morning. The cabin could have easily accomodated another couple and a few children - there's plenty of space. It should be noted, however, that while there are multiple bathrooms, there is only one shower. We look forward to our next trip to Estes Park and staying the cabin again.

My family stayed at this cabin in late March 2011 and had a wonderful time. It is located very close to town, but in a very quiet area. You will not see or hear any neighbors. The cabin itself was very large and on a big piece of wooded property. It was so perfect in every way. It basically has 5 bedrooms if you close the doors to the enclosed sunroom and use the completely seperate maid's room. The entrance to Rocky Mtn Park is only maybe 2 miles away. This cabin is so much better than staying at a condo because it has character AND all the modern conveniences. If you want a cool, large house rather than a cookie cutter condo, stay here! We can't wait to go back.

In the company of the deer who wandered by, looking at us through the windows, the scent of the pines & the ever present rushing of the river, my family had a warm, home-like Thanksgiving in this fabulous old house. Thank you for this gracious hospitality.
