The Waterman's Cottage was built in 1930 and lived in by a fellow who fished the Chesapeake Bay for crabs, oysters, and local fish, until 1994. The house was completely renovated in 1997, and updated again in 2007. The owner is a well established interior designer from Washington, D.C. who has furnished the cottage with contemporary upholstery and American antiques. The rooms are colorful, and relaxed, with an aesthetic of the Bay and beach mixed together. The double bed in the small guest room is a low, four post country bed from the Shennandoah Valley. The large guest room has a contemporary Ship Captain's bed. The living room and eat in kitchen also contain informal antique pieces from the 18th through the 20th century, and have been collected from Nantucket to Paris, Virginia. The owner will be on the premises during the rental period to help with any questions or provide information about the town. He is an avid sailor and is a member of the Eastport Yacht Club, and is well connected to all the maritime businesses in Eastport. Important caveats; for those with cat allergies, there are two Siamese cats who frequent the house, however they are not allowed in the guest rooms, and spend little time in the rest of the rental spaces. The house is very clean, and guests have had trouble detecting cats. Also, the staircase to the second floor is original and therefore is steep with shallow steps, which might present uneasiness for elderly guests. |
